Probelm is Ji I cannot get any of the regulars to get behind me. If you, DT, HM, meteo, weathafella, Ariz Wx, and anyone of a half dozen other regulars would express the idea that either keep it running or shut it down or something along those lines then there would be some impact and improvement . I have always maintained it is a non revenue producer for them and they never intended for it to become a 1,600 member site with over 500 posts per day and is essence the service amounts to the quality and care of a monopoly which equals indifference. The idea that it is free so I should shut up is bunk. But as long as most act as if they are deathly afraid to voice any discontent then things will continue as they have been which is inattentive to quality and lack of commitment. Even when it is restored it is quickly very slow with a lot of web site not responding notices. Storm 2K is a good site, growing and with moderators who are responsive. I have not gotten one e-mail response in last 6 months from WWBB and all I ever send them is "Bulletin board down again, time frame to working again please" and they do not have the business accumn or simple human decency to respond to that but rather state they blocked my e-mail becasue I complain too frequently. I would much rather be here but the fact is that a lot of talented and knowledgable posters are there and it is a busier site. This site tolerates less of the battle royals but they are willing to let spirted debate occur. Bottom line is voice your dissent and if it continues to fall on deaf ears encourage people to get active here.

We are working very hard to expand S2K's focus past just the tropical arena. David (vbhoutex) and Harry (King of Weather) are leading the charge on that. As part of the staff here, I can promise we'll do whatever we can to assist. Any ideas on what we can do would be greatly appreciated.
STORM2K is just now approaching it's first year on the net but we've come a long way. It will only get better as we get more input from our members and expand the scope of the site!

truth is---i wouldnt miss it one bit if all the great posters came over here. Its not really the site..but its who posts on the site. Its getting very frustrating. At first..i was in the who cares its free school.....but ive changed my thinking. If your going to offer something to the public...do it with 100% or dont do it at all. Ive seen plenty of boards and only WWBB seems to go down with regularity. BTW..LC is touting a memorable storm for this weekend.
Well see

one more thing..
alot of great METS post over there because they are paying customers for their awesome Weather site. nothing comes close to their models so WW is kind of a one stop shop for them. Models/and Bulletin Board. As paying customer..i would be very furious that the site is always down especially when im paying 30 bucks for it. Alot of posters are customers. Meteotrade even complained to Mike Dross about the model timeliness not being what it should be. THe GFS was 6 hours late in updating or something. Wright -Weather needs to get its act together it seems like.

This is what I am referencing as commitment, availability, and responsiveness. You would never get such as rsponse from the admins at WWBB.

Unless they are bad businessmen, which is entirely possible if you draw a corollary from their capability to keep a bulletin board operative, then I do not believe that the bulletin board is actually "free" but rather it's costs are reflected in the fees charged for members using the pay site

I'm with you!! I'll pay a SMALL fee if I have to! This is ridiculous!!

I would gladly pay $120 per year but not up front because of the demonstrated unreliability. A quarter of that, or $30 up front, would be fine and if it is still in operation without the almost now weekly outages then another $30 after three months. I come to the internet for amusement and to unwind and it is not amusing nor relaxing to try to bring up a site that is either inoperative or even if operative each function is so slow that it takes 5 minutes to post or retrieve one message.

Well, I'm not cool with making any weather forum a pay service. I simply don't have the money to pay for something like that right now and I'd hate to miss out on reading all the great discussions from the more knowledgable posters. But of course...there's two drawbacks to that. You get a lot more trolling with a free service...and secondly, you're really not free to complain about down time, which is frustrating.
But with that said...I simply don't see why we don't all migrate over this way. After visiting some of the other weather boards, this one really seems like the best alternative to WW. This is certainly my new backup, and I'm more than willing to make it my new regular board if some of the other regular posters do the same.

Actually..Without the hard work and efforts of the Administrators and staff and members S2K wouldn't be a reality. I think it's a group effort between the staff and members and the site!!! If you don't have an awesome and reliable place for people to post then they won't want to be a memberJI wrote:truth is---i wouldnt miss it one bit if all the great posters came over here. To all posters on this forum and especially to the Wright Weather BB members who are posting here, first of all I would like to WELCOME YOU BACK. I am also a member at WW BB, but spend 99% of my time here since I am very busy with different responsibilities here. I will personally guarantee(for what that is worth??)that I will do all I can to be responsive as a mod here. The only thing I, as a mod ask of anyone posting at this site, is that they be responsible in their posts and be respectful in their posts. I encourage and desire open discussion and debate about just about any subject as long as it follows those two rules. Plain and simple we want you here at Storm2k as contributing members and we pledge to do our best to make it a good experience for all.
This is really going to be our first winter season with the site in full swing. Both myself and StormsFury will be transitioning to the USA weather forum as the Tropical season winds down. KingOfWeather has done a GREAT JOB of keeping the CONUS forecasts updated at least daily, and has done it almost completely on his own. We have big plans to regionalize our forecasting for the CONUS but will need the help of others with expertise in the winter arena to accomplish our BIG GOALS! To that end I encourage each of you to TRY US YOU'LL LIKE US!!! WE ARE ALWAYS OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT!! We can't improve or grow without input from all posters involved. So all you weather addicts join us here and in the USA Weather Discussion forum and post away. We also offer an Off Topic forum and others.

Speaking as a total stranger to the other board in question (I frequent here and TWC- 98% here and 2% TWC when I'm feeling cranky)
I'm a subscriber to another website (not weather related at all) which has open "free" forums. I pay upwards of 15$ a month for the (Nationally based! We're NOT talking small fry- this is a national corporation.) service and must say that the boards are cranky, the mods do NOT listen to popular requests, and everyone is told to just shut up and take it because that's part of the site that's "free". I disagree with that point and manage to get myself banned 3-4 times for complaining bitterly and er... rallying the other dissenters into an open complaint campaign.
The boards still don't feature bumping threads (Can you imagine how hard it is to get a post answered and how many times people repeat themselves? it's TERRIBLE. And they have the capacity- they ~removed~ it!) there are no icons, no smilie faces, no other "nice" features at all. There is very very heavy censoring- posts about on topic matters removed daily (words like "screw" are censored out regardless of meaning and you're forced to remove them before your post will go through)The mods don't listen to anyone- emails are unanswered... Nothing to keep people there except the main website- which people are paying 15$ a month to subscribe to.
They really don't have to listen to you at all. But you don't have to stay there either- a friend of mine created an offshoot site and a number of people are quite happy there with thier bumping threads, uncensored posts, avatars, smilie faces.... and never went back.
This is a good site. I'm really enjoying it- there are few sites that I've EVER been to where people will polietly agree to disagree on controversial topics... while still stating thier points. this is home for me- and I plan on sticking here through the winter even though my city doens't AHVE a true winter
