Happy New Year - 5764
I'm of the Christian faith, not Judaism. But some of you might be celebrating Rosh Hashanah tonight at sundown. So, Shana Tovah to ya!

Nope, it's based on the Jewish calendar and how old their faith is. Kinda like how ours is based on the years since Christ's birth.
If I understand correctly, they don't quite celebrate this "new year" as rowdy as we all do on 1/1. It's a religious holiday and they don't work today (the holiday officially began at sundown last night, as do all Jewish holidays). The greeting "Shana tova" is an abbreviated version of a longer greeting in Hebrew. It means something like "May your name be inscribed in the book in the coming year." That's based on the belief that God starts a new book every year and includes in it the names of those who will live and those who will have a good life. Those who aren't in the book will die or have a bad life.
Like I said, I'm not Jewish, so I the details are fuzzy to me.
