I live on Long Island and I am in full storm mode! Going to the South Shore tomorrow and packing a big bag of batteries, flashlights, battery packs(phone charging), camera, food, case of water, extra clothes, rain gear, also I'm putting my bike in the upstairs of my grandmothers house along with a pump so I can ride around and see the damage and help out

Based on what I just saw on TWC and elsewhere, the media is, but it's party time for the average schmuck. Not cool, not cool at all.

Someone replied to me about a concert going on in Maryland saying they shouldn't be getting anything until Sunday, so they aren't paying attention to anything right now.

If no one is taking this seriously over there, then we might actually get a Sandina or Katrandy on our hands. The media took Katrina very seriously but not everyone did and look what happened.

Hermine...the storm that could never get going now can't stop. I wish folks up north the best.

there's a serious situation developing in Pasco county with a band of training torrential rain. water rescues are ongoing and more heavy rain is approaching from the gulf. there's a rich flow of southerly winds feeding into this convection.

If Hermine moves closer to the coast Sunday night then winds along the beaches may increase from 25-35 mph to 45-55 mph. The center would have to move into the coast for higher winds. Either way, looks like a bad weekend for the East Cost. Plenty of beach erosion and tides way above normal. Maybe even power outages along the coast.

Could Hermine pull a Nadine like evolution? Nadine transitioned from tropical to extratropical to tropical to extratropical
I think it even was subtropical at some point. Interesting days ahead for sure. Hope everybody takes this seriously in the east coast.

That last forecast position in the (5:00PM) five day cone showed Hermine turning toward the NJ coast or is that an eventual loop, interesting.

Wrecked us pretty good here in Wakulla. Luckily, not many houses devastated... but hundreds of trees, power lines and stuff like that.
They say some areas could be without power for up to 2 weeks.

Yeah, the radar (via Accuweather screen shot) is not encouraging for Pasco nor SW Florida tonight.

I just pray the unprepared learned a lesson from this storm. Imagine if she had another day to intensify before hitting West Florida and the Big Bend.

Probably another 2012 crest if it stops raining soon.

JohnGaltFl - I agree, but I want to acknowledge that the great FL residents in WFL/BigBend knew how to deal with these storms from advice of past generations and local community. It's unfortunate that one person died, but casualties could have been much worse.
I am so proud to be a Floridian tonight and happy that WFL/BB folks listened to their elders and the authorities and did everything right. I am sorry for your home and business losses, but those can be recovered. I am just thankful if you can read this. (Send me PMs if Brevard can send you help.)
ATL SEABOARD people -- PLEASE take this storm seriously. Listen and follow your authority's directions.
From FL, we watched Sandy hit and watched in horror because so many things could have been avoided/prevented.

This is going to get ugly here. Our Governor is MIA, no Evacs have been issued and the shore is packed with tourists.

Let's not overreact. There is a long time before the storm gets up to the Jersey Shore, and I can tell you from being in it right now, with the center being just to our SW, the storm is petering out. I live just south of Wilmington NC, and the heavy rain just passed us, there is a nice light breeze, and the radar looks pretty clear for the rest of the night. I seriously doubt this is a tropical storm now. We aren't even getting depression conditions.

The storm is NOT petering out. It will reintensify, likely to hurricane force.
Not going to be a Sandy, but it will have the impact of a major Nor'Easter

I'm giving you an on the ground observation right now from Southport NC, and this storm is not putting out tropical storm weather in either rain or wind, and i would hazard that it is barely putting out tropical depression weather.
