Tropics still active
Hurricane Juan is about to drop in on Nova Scotia, with landfall expected late Sunday or early Monday. I really dont expect the transition to extratropical to occur before landfall so I hope folks there are ready for torrential rains and hurricane force winds. TD 16 may reach TS status today, but wont keep it long as it is forecast to recurve and move over cooler waters over the next few days. At any rate there is no threat to land. An area of disturbed weather off the SE US coast has become a little better organized today. Even if development does occur it us unlikely it will threaten land. This is due to an approaching cold front which should carry it NE well out to sea. The primary area of concern is the Carribean. Although the area doesnt look impressive on sattelite pressures are falling and I feel development could occur. Rapid development in this area isnt uncommon this time of year of residents of Florida and the eastern Gulf coast should monitor this system for future development.
