ATL: MATTHEW - Post-Tropical - Discussion

With such a slow forward motion, focusing on a longer term average motion is more important than ever. For all his power it's worth remembering that Matthew's recent pace has been slower than a rascal scooter. He seems to be generally wobbling close to track, albeit at a snail's pace. BTW that track someone posted from back on 9-29...it looked pretty darn good overall. Those eggheads at the NHC...they're pretty darn good.

This is looking very very bad for the entire Tiburon Peninsula of Haiti.

. I am sorry if I am posting in the wrong forum please feel free to delete. But I was visiting a friend in the hospital today. I spoke to 2 aides who are from Haiti. They said they called relatives in Haiti and warned them of the storm. According to them Haitians don't get storm warnings from their government. Is this true? Thank you.

That would be quite surprising. I think it's more likely that many Haitians don't have radios or TVs to hear the warnings. Just a guess. By the way, it's the right forum.

While Matthew has stalled, the players that would influence his track once he eventually gets to the Bahamas are definitely on the move. That stalled cutoff low that was over Kentucky for days last week is filling in and on the way out, the big question is how fast does it get out of the picture and where will Matthew be?

Indeed. Some of Jax's Mets have noted the lack of the North turn so far which it would have to do now.

Looking at the water vapor imagery and the high northeast of the Bahama's. The ridge appears fairly strong. Could be a problem for the east coast if it doesn't break down or move eastward.

It's the low level flow piling up in front of Matthew, making a favorable environment for convection.

Hurricane #Matthew has had max winds >=145 mph or more for past 54 hours - longest streak of winds that strong in Atl since Wilma (2005).
