This was posted earlier but here it is again. Filtered to only hurricanes, and only one stands out.

Wow, just wow. I see a resemblance to Wilma here, they really do look alike.

Go to Wptv channel 5 website. I listened to the governor and he stated that all Fl counties are under a state of emergency

Yikes. This is a borderline worst-case scenario for Haiti, I shudder to think of what the damage reports and death tolls are going to look like.

Not sure if this has to do with the ridging in place. The thunderstorms on Sunday and today are coming from the S/SE and for a number of days before the were out from the gulf moving east inland from the coast. Could this mean the ridge is firmly in place today?

Got to say the track really is shaping up like Hazel, same move NNE followed by NW bend back. Amazing similarities!

Also very good presentation. Could be close to 5 as it hits Haiti if northern eyewall deepens convectivly.

Definitely looks like a Cat 5, and looks the best it ever has. Unfortunately, this looks like a catastrophic situation for Haiti. :(

There are many news sources that verify the fact that a state of emergency was declared in FLA... as well as NC.

Yes, the media has caught on since I asked. Thanks to all for the verification.

You still coming to FL later this week??

I fly to Orlando NEXT Monday. Should be nice weather by then. Looks like Matthew is going to be big trouble for the Carolinas this weekend. Maybe a major hurricane landfall for NC. Not forecasting that yet, though. Note that Matthew may only pass close enough to Florida to result in northerly winds 35-45 mph with higher gusts along the coast. Hurricane-force winds should remain well offshore.

Quite a preventable tragedy. Unfortunately they are so poor they feel even a hurricane is not an excuse to take a day off.
