Feeling like we're the first ones to bat here in the Treasure Coast.

Why is it so hard to buy? I recall Wilma coming from the west out of the GOM but is it really rare for a Caribbean storm to approach FL this way? We have seen in plenty in Sept with Frances and Jeane and we are only 3 days into October.

What Impacts could I be looking at up here in Maine?
Some of our forecasters are starting to talk about a possible Category 1?

The obvious things-food, water, gas, batteries, flashlight, candles. A weather radio. Power outages can happen fairly quickly even inland as trees go down. Tornadoes are a very real possibility...you will want to monitor this. I make sure my yard is free of anything that can blow around or away. A manual can opener-learned that lesson the hard way after Charley. People are going to go through far, far worse, but I was without power for 9 days after Charley. It is unpleasant to say the least. Have the basic necessities and you'll adapt.
Don't forget cell phone, extra battery or power source, cash (ATM's will be down if no power), and gather passports ID's & important papers which can be kept dry in garbage bags. If your family lives in a trailer they should not stay if there's any risk of gusts to hurricane force.
Do you expect evac for treasure coast east of US 1?

I would include Broward County in that, as well, especially northern Broward.

I hate to sound condescending, but candles should NOT be on the list. Flashlights, yeah, but no candles for light. I would also recommend putting a box together, if you haven't already... can opener, barbeque lighter, fill propane tanks, and a first aid kit. Also a bottle of bleach, just in case you need to sanitize something, or add a drop to drinking water.
You should already have done this a long time ago... sealed storage for important papers, medicines, etc.
Also enough water for each person (2 gallons a day, times 3 days, minimum, plus more if you have pets)

However, the NHC issues watches and warnings and we are amateurs getting blurry-eyed watching models from run to run.

If Maine would have any impacts, they are at least a full week away. Way too early to speculate.

The last few runs of the GFS have been incredible. 25 to 50 miles separating a possible landfall somewhere between Miami and the Outer Banks and maybe no landfall at all.

This feels like Floyd's revenge - Matthew is trying to scrape the east coast like Floyd was once feared.

I am waking up early tomorrow morning to get prepared. No more model watching for me. Time to take action.
