Probably just a temporary stall, but occasionally that can signal a EWRC or a track direction change.

There's also the Build Your Own page.

http://weather.msfc.nasa.gov/GOES/getsatellite.html

This is where I make the loop links like this IR loop:

http://weather.msfc.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/get-goes?satellite=GOES-E%20CONUS&lat=14&lon=-75&info=ir&zoom=2&width=1000&height=800&quality=90&type=Animation&palette=ir2.pal&numframes=30&mapcolor=yellow&map=latlon

For the latest right off the satellite feed nothing is faster than the FTP site, but you need an image editor to view it properly (TIFF files).

This is the link to the visible directory, if you go back to the parent you will see all the IR directories but no coloration applied so not really usable.

The western side of the cyclone is losing its convection. Upsloping bands raining itself out on the mountains of cuba, downsloping on the other side. Its weakening. This is good. Glad to see it slowed or wobbled west too, will be better for bahamas

The NASA MSFC water vapor imagery is your best bet right now to watch this cross Cuba - northern eyewall is emerging over the water right now. The subtle clearing the eye was attempting is clearly gone now but it's moving

it weakened around Hispaniola and then dissipated off cuba...its not impossible for these storms with weak steering currents to get hung up..debby was a different setup but the result was dissipation

I'm a long time reader and really appreciate all of the good info and debate. I live on A1A in Boca and have been contemplating evacuating. I was attempting to find more information today on the potential for mandatory evacuation and found that just about everywhere I looked, news paper, both counties emergency operations webpage's, news websites and google, I could not find one word about evacuations and if they were considering it or not. Now I did notice that SC and NC started putting info out about it. I lived here for Floyd and I had police officers knocking on my door telling me to leave. What is the determining factor in when they issue mandatory evacuations? Many thanks and I hope everyone stays safe.

Yes. I think that was the Jamaica's government reasoning for issuing the hurricane warning for Jamaica and maintaining it for as long as they did.

I made a big mistake in 2005 and stayed in Mississippi for Katrina. It was projected to go to Louisiana. We had been through so many false alarms in New Orleans that my young adult daughter refused to leave and refused to let me take my grandson. I could not leave them here. I have never been more terrified during and miserable after. We were able to get out days later. I still have nightmares of Katrina. If you can go then go!

Hurricanes in the central gulf coast ALWAYS fade east from the 12-24 hour forecast.

Unfortunately not. Conditions are ripe for Matthew to strengthen once he gets back over water. You saw how fast he rebounded after Haiti. He will weaken yes, but that will not stop the hurricane from intensifying again.

I'm wondering this, too.

Mike Theiss' updates are awesome, too.

It may weaken now but it is going to have plenty of time to restrengthen with some great conditions. The overall form of the storm is still intact.

Yeah that little tip of Cuba has really taken the bite out of Matt. It does look like it has slowed to a crawl and is getting gutted by that little peice of land, surprisingly. I believe this will have significant impacts on future intensity.

I just wanted to take a moment and recognize what a tremendous resource STORM2K is. There is absolutely no better place to follow along with what's happening with tropical weather! There are quite a few professional meteorologists that share their thoughts and knowledge here, along with meteorology students, and also very impressively intelligent and knowledgeable amateur enthusiasts who share their thoughts. A round of applause is deserved, for the creators, managers, moderators, and contributors, that keep STORM2K the valuable forum/resource that we all appreciate and cling to, when dangerous tropical weather is in play. Clap. clap, clap!
