Good evening everyone. Just saw the 11:00 advisory and needless to say, WOW!!! The entire East Coast of Florida is staring down this beast Matthew. Golks I hsve been preparing all day long and I am tired, but my preps are done
I really hope all is honkerd down and ready. This is the teal deal folks. It geels surreal that we have a major hurricsne heading in I our direction. Looking forward to talking with you all for as long as we are able to do so from now all the way up til Matthew appraoches us here along the Florida East Coast.

PLEASE NOTE: Pulling a meter is most likely illegal. It is. Living in South Florida I have helped friends connect their houses to portable generators, and have pulled dozens of them. But I can also tell you from dealing with FPL EVERY day, the lineman will go right past you if they see a generator running and no transfer switch. Pick your poison, so far every time I have pulled the meter the lineman have been appreciative, and I am not in jail..

That seems better to me. We have had 3 "storm of the century" multiple day outages in the past 4 years. Linemen have come from all over the state and surrounding regions to restore service. Around here, seems like they just knock on doors if they have a question about how the generator feeds the house. No one pulls meters, at least not that I'm aware of.

We had a couple linemen killed during Andrew due to bad generator hook ups. I didn't have shore power at the house till end of September, office until November. Fed and talked to a TON of linemen LOL.

Not looking good for Jacksonville with that update. I guess all we can hope for now is that shear after the Bahamas keeps it in check.

Getting nervous Jax but, we got our preps done too. It would be close enough that regardless of landfall or not, effects are almost the same.

Yeah...but this track is awful...might rank with Sandy as one of the most destructive non landfalling TCs...

Based on Cuba radar, banding actually seemed to improve while the center was passing over a 4,000 ft. mountain. Quite impressive. And now it appears that at least 50% of the center is back over water. I would really be surprised if Matt didn't strengthen by 20-25 MPH on Wednesday.

I was under the impression that Madpoodle was trying to be helpful and no offense, but this is starting to sound like a case of "no good deed goes unpunished." If you disagree with someone professionally, particularly in a thread not related to that profession, perhaps you could PM about it. Just sayin'.

Btw, another note on generators. Have a transfer switch installed by an electrician. You then connect a heavy gauge wire fromthe generator to the house. Before connecting to the house determine which breakers you want to turn on. Generally you don't want to use anything in 220 because it wiil require too much power. A tranfer switch allows you have power and use your house outlets. It prevents running cords into the house. But, most importantly it avoids putting power company employees in danger.

This is the key. NO BACKFEEDING THE SUPPLY. Make SURE your setup is safe. No one's life is worth you having power.

Looks based on recon and radar like it was in the middle of an ERC as it made landfall--what impact if any would this have on the intensity once it passes Cuba?

Looking at the Guantanamo Bay radar this storm has maintained an extremely impressive spiral band to the south of the core during its time over land - probably drawing in a bit of energy from that

looks like the eye will move right over Nassau in the Bahamas...pretty huge hit for them.
