Matthew could become a major threat to NASA facilities, no? Even if there's no damage, I imagine they will have to mobilize a lot of resources to buckle everything down.

Also it'll be great if you can elaborate as to why Nicole could disrupt Matthew... thanks,,,
I could elaborate very extensively.. however that would be lengthy..
lets just go with. a hurricane is a well lubed machine.. another circulation would be throwing an wrench in it and would disrupt the structure of the system for a certain time it would take to absorb.

nah the majority of the launch assemblies would be just fine solid metal structures that withstand a lot of shear forces during launches. building themselves yes most are old hangers from the cold war era and a direct cat 4 hit would tear most down. overall infrastructure would be fine though.

Fortunately, we no longer have much of a space program. Unfortunately, the Cape had 100 million in damages for Frances.

I think what looks like an eye, is north of Cuba. Really looks like he's taken one heck of a beating. Like 4 Wisdom teeth pulled.... without novocaine. Another observation, i'm not so sure that the storm will make its date with its 12Z forecast point. One more wrench to throw into the timing tool box.

Eastern Quadrant:
Flight Level Wind (30 sec. Avg.): 104 knots (119.7 mph)
Peak (10 sec. Avg.) Flight Level Wind: 109 knots (125.4 mph)
Highest SFMR Peak (10s Avg.) Sfc. Wind: 109 knots (125.4 mph)
There is a bit of a secondary wind maximum in the eastern quadrant.
The wind is also higher there, to be expected given its north movement.

I think I can hear Matt slurping the energy from the ocean from here in NC! A couple of hours ago I was thinking Cuba did a number on him.

Minor update (unless already mentioned); Miami-Dade County had their T.S. Watch upgraded to a Warning, and Broward County had their Hurricane Watch upgraded to a Warning. Meanwhile, took my last look at Matthew for the eve.; swear he's looking like a pizza that's been run over by a bus. Still hard to discern the actual eye

Fortunately, we have a VERY active space program these days, and luckily (for all taxpayers) most of the programs right now are run by private enterprise and not by tax dollars. NASA still having a really hard time weaning off the Space nipple.
Will the buildings and structures get damaged by a Cat 3 or higher? ABSOLUTELY (except for the VAB). The great thing these days is that Elon Musk and other new Space Pioneers have enough $$$ or insurance policies to rebuild.
