tgenius wrote:not necessarily "worrying" yet in Miami, but if he keeps that WNW heading (based on John Morales' tweet info) then I will absolutely be closing my accordion shutters tonight. I lived through Katrina, was supposed to go in through broward, I fell asleep in my condo and woke up to the sliding glass doors buckling, was confused, and then saw the SW dip (which NOGAPS if I am not mistaken was the only model to predict it) 2pm and 5pm advisories for plot distance will be mighty interesting.

I would continue watching his tweets. He's fired up about this ( and rightfully so). He's been watching this extremely close and I think he's spot on.

This is not going to help the Zika virus situation in Florida at all. Lots of standing water will be everywhere, and not the priority to address. many folks will also have their windows and screens blown out. if there are small pocket populations of infected bugs, they will literally be transported far and wide by the storm. yeehaw :(

Anyone care to comment on how severe the situation will be around new smyrna beach? We are about 1.5 miles inland mainside and 2 blocks from the intracoastal in an 1940s block home that withstood the likes of David in 1979 when it came up the coast so I'm hopeful we will be ok.

first time poster here -- great site.

I have a buddy (a bone head), that is traveling down to Disney from New jersey -- driving. Looks like he'll be coming down I-95. He is expecting to roll into Orlando around 9pm tomorrow night.

Will he even make it?

About that time is when I'd expect some delays to start at the airport.

I work for a theme park here - as of now - we're open as normal...I'm sure that will be changing.

Just wondering, how many days did WDW close after Charlie hit the area? Does anyone recall? This could be much worse that Charlie if it comes to fruition as a slow moving Major hitting the Orlando area.... been thru several majors (Camille, Fredrick, Elena, Katrina) and lost two houses ... but the worse is after the storm, not during the storm... expect extremely miserable conditions for days and perhaps weeks... you way of life could be altered for years if it truly does impact as a strengthening major hurricane... good luck to all in its path... will be watching and praying from my beach house on the beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast, Biloxi...

Voluntary evacuations have been issued for low lying areas and mobile homes in Broward County.

It depended on the park. I believe for one of the canes MGM was closed for a few days. They will obviously try to keep them closed for the least mount of time as possible. Each day closed is a huge loss in revenue for them.

Not bad for having passed over two mountain ranges in the past day.

Maybe, but he'll wish he hadn't probably.
