He VERY much is getting his act together just hasn't really started strengthening again yet. He is getting ready to ramp up pretty quickly over night though. Once that is cleared out again which it's well on it's way to do so he should ramp very quickly.

In other words, Matthew is poised. Very poised!

Yup, I think he was getting hung up by the mountains in southern Cuba. Looks like he's finally clearing out, and about to make his move.

I used to live in St Lucie County on the Treasure Coast. I lived in Fort Pierce and Port St Lucie. My family has many friends made from the years spent there. Also, every June I go down with my family to Hutchinson Island and stay in an ocean front condo. It's my mom's happy place. The reality of the seriousness of this is causing a level of dread and concern I haven't experienced in regards to a weather event. Sandy is the closest I can think of that I was remotely as worried as I am tonight. And I am not even immediately directly being hit. I can't imagine how people in the path actually feel. My thoughts are with everyone down there and also the ones in the Caribbean.

To those who are active members here who are in the path... my thoughts are with you... please be as safe as possible! And let's hope for a miss.

Please don't be frightened. If you've boarded up, if your house is stout and solid, then you can ride it out. Just be aware of what is going outside. Have flashlights in case it's night and electric goes out, so you can investigate things that go "bump" in the night - BUT DO NOT GO OUTSIDE DURING THE STORM!

If a window breaks, or roof starts to go, move yourself to a safe place - inside room, with no windows. Have blankets or, pillows (mattress is better) to cover yourself and protect from flying debris. Battery powered radio to monitor when the storm has passed.

Mainly, keep your head, stay put and wait until the worst is over. Just make sure you dont ' mistake the lull of the eye with "the storm is past," and go out too soon.

Lots of scary noises, and the wind howls, but just sit tight. It DOES end!

You'll be all right. Lots of others going through what you are too, and many are also scared.

You will be all right! Praying for you now.

Stay safe! We've cleaned up here around the place here in Orlando area but not boarding anything up. Would assume we will deal with power issues at the least. Neighborhood is all dead oak trees over power wires.

I hope your correct, my son is in a second story apartment near the Waterford Center Hes in school at UCF and i keep reading the boards hoping he made the right decision to stay.

We have a very clearly defined eye in the latest satellite pictures. I also see a clear WNW path.

Yes, I see that too but maybe a wobble and not a trend. Still not good to see.

Let me tell you all something, those of you under the gun here: you need to be expecting a monster. You need to make sure you have provisions for a long time, in case things go to heck in the aftermath of the storm. The wind and surge will be awful, what follows may be worse. We have seen the chaos in a post-storm envirnment before. If you can stay put and wait, do so.

Emergency response agencies are going to be stretched to the limit, from fire and EMS to the national guard and CAP. There has been a lot of revisions to response guidance post-Katrina, and we are about to see it in action. Please, please, stay safe, and play this smart.

What concerns me is there has never been a Category 3 or higher storm make landfall north of West Palm Beach. Climatology and 150+ years of history says if this is going to landfall as a major it will be somewhere in Dade, Broward, or Palm Beach counties.

St. John Emergency Management has a level 2 (partial evacuation) listed

The entire city of Saint Augustine is under mandatory evacuation. WJXT TV 4 is live on the scene there at the St Johns County EOC.

Thanks for correcting me on that. I hadn't seen the WJXT coverage.

Seems to be a wobble on the general NW path. Look at last 4 frames (2 hours still moving NW)
