Latest Radar shows a healthy hurricane still approaching the coast (a sight I haven't seen in years). All of the beaches are almost quiet and under a 10pm curfew.

Ok, so bad situation, I have a family friend in Port Orange ,6 miles inland, and I asked her earlier if she had everything ready and she did, and I asked if her shutters were on securely, and she said that she didn't have shutters!!!!!!!! I am very very nervous for her, she said that she had her car packed up in case they had had to leave (don't see the use for that.) Can you guys please tell me what to tell her, she still has power and phone reception, she has everything from outside inside, and she had food, water, and gas in the car. Any help is well appreciated!!!

It ends up the more aggressive models showing a track into South Florida missed it big time. UKMET, NAVGEM, Australian...
EWRC and maybe Nicole threw a monkey wrench into the outcome for sure and those, I guess; aren't model-able

It was never forecasted to hit south FL, the eye at least. S FL was in the cone but it has been tracking on the right side of the cone thus staying far enough east of S FL.

The problem for intensity forecasts is the fact thatMatthew may intact makelandfall in FL then stay just over land all the way up through SC and maybe even into NC. This would be a much weaker storm.

The more frightening scenario would be a storm staying just far enough off the coast to maintain strength. Then the entire East coast from FL to NC would have the chance of hurricane force winds.

Also many models hinting at some big time rains in NC a foot of rain is on the table due to tropical moisture training into NC starting tomorrow.

Bottom line is that there are A LOT of people that think they are "safe" when in fact they are at major risk

I can tell you that just about everyone on the OBX has let thier guard down. We are dependent on the hook. The hook relieved lots of angst that was here for several days. Just about everything was cancelled here. Lots of buisness lost because of it. But, a giant sigh of relief was had by all when the hook was forecast. In fact I was hoping for a sunny weekend. It doesn't look like that's gonna happen already.

It ain't over yet for PSL. Won't get the eyewall, but there's some good bands incoming. Regardless, better to regret evacuating when it turned out ok than take the chance and regret NOT evacuating.

You made the sensible choice.

Wow, the Storm2K map at the top of the forums is really updating fast lately. It now has Matthew as a Cat 3. So, I'm assuming winds will be down in the 11 PM advisory.

Edited to add: I know one was mentioned earlier but I lost it. Sorry.

Also Matt is set to approach Melbourne around 12am to 2am. 12am is roughly high tide how large of an impact will that have?

Melbourne is in the Orlando market, so their stations would cover it.
