Re: ATL: MATTHEW - Hurricane - Discussion
It's cynically humorous watching the tv newsfolks adjust their reactions to new slightly eastern (but still dangerous) track.
Still need to watch closely as Matthew is still a very dangerous storm that could just as easily wobble to the west.

Re: ATL: MATTHEW - Hurricane - Discussion
An interesting tidbit from NHC tonight: A climate note: This is the first time since September 10, 1964 that two Category 2 (or stronger) hurricanes have occurred simultaneously in the Atlantic basin west of 65W. Interestingly, those hurricanes in 1964, Dora and Ethel, were in similar positions as Matthew and Nicole are now.
Wonder who dug that one up.

Does it still show the loop in the track off the SC/NC coast?

Now seems to be contracting into the inner eyewall and the WNW wobble hasn't ended yet

I have to admit I've been so focused on Matthew I didn't even realize Nicole had reached category two.

ncweatherwizard wrote:SFMR showing that the winds in the outer eyewall are stronger than the inner eyewall in the SW quadrant. Looking forward to seeing the NW quadrant when they pass through the first time. That's where the higher winds were in the outer eyewall earlier.
Also, a distinct double wind maximum in flight-level winds is apparent in recon obs. In fact, the peak flight level wind was in the outer eyewall. Hasn't worked it's way down to the surface yet apparently though, but SFMR did indicate a 75-80kt wind max near surface in the outer wall.

339 confirmed dead in Haiti
Sadly, I expect this to exceed 10,000 when all is said and done

Did the NHC site go down for Sandy or Irene? I wonder what the level of traffic was in comparison to Matthew.

Colors of lost purpose on the canvas of irrelevance
Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

Here in Palm Bay FL. Nothing of note as of yet. Some tropical storm force gusts. A few transformers going off in the distance, power still on, but probably not for much longer. Not looking forward to the main rain shield and winds, but nothing compared to what was projected consistently for days. All in path, Stay safe.
