We are in that tornado warning!

I am absolutely amazed at how this thing is just hugging the coast so tight and not going into land. Almost as if "IT'S" afraid of it. Seems luck is going to run out sooner or later.

My coworker's house in New Smyrna Beach on the Island is about to flood from the storm surge, is one of the older homes that is on ground level.
I'm sure this is going to be the story all the way up the coast to Jax as the day goes on.

Can someone who can get in to the NHC website, post the track update? I can't get into their website.

You just reminded me that there's lots of taller & older trees in the Jax area than areas south, could see a lot more downed trees in your area.

Yes, there are. We have many tall and old trees that are vulnerable when the ground gets saturated in addition to a huge gust of winds and they topple.

The Fuller Warren Bridge in downtown Jacksonville is now closed. The Fuller Warren is the I-95 bridge.

Situation looks bad in Daytona Beach. Seeing videos of bad surge, roofs being ripped off hotels.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

By the eye staying offshore has been the worst case scenario for Daytona Beach, IMO. The western side of the eyewall has been close enough to produce high winds and at the same time it has not lost strength because is staying offshore. IMO.

Although I have been a hurricane forecaster since 1980 that only means I've been wrong lots of times.

As some of my fellow Jax posters have said, the bridges are being closed to high winds and in some cases, downed power lines. It just got worse over here with the wind is pushing hard against the house. I'm probably wrong, but I think Matthew has wobbled to the west a bit on radar and satellite (no landfall but close).

That looks like the eye is heading directly for Jacksonville.

It looks like it is but w/ the northern component its not making a direct landfall on Jacksonville but will keep close to southeast coast

A small wobble could push this inland along the lower SC coast.

Could this thing re strengthen after it loops ? I'm assuming it can if the conditions are ripe. What a weird azz storm.

We in south Florida are so blessed and lucky. Those up north getting hit, take care and report in when you can.

Could it? Yes. Is it likely? No. All of the computer models show Matthew being a literal shell of his former self by that time.
