Unfortunately I think the Georgia and Lower SC coasts may end up getting the worst that Matthew has to offer.

Isn't the trough supposed to lift it quickly to the northeast, offshore of GA, and SC?

Most models and the NHC are at landfall or just near landfall in Charleston. Anyway, I think it's too late to avoid a major surge event for Charleston and Beaufort counties.

The storm will move off to the NE, yes, but quite likely as a hurricane. Most of the modelling has it right over the coastline of SC.

Fortunately it will be right at low tide when the winds are at their peak from offshore.

Just. measured 71 mph in gust.here at the ponderosa. This is the strongest I have measured here to this point and exceeds the highest gust I got from Beryl in 2012 , ehich was 67 mph when the center moved over me.

Tropical Storm Julia gave me peak gust of 58 mph, and Iost power in that one last month. Unbelievable that my power is still on here despiite trees down in my neighborhood.

Hopefully so! The Governor painted a scary picture for the coast.

you want to be a part of the hurricane without having to deal with the effects, they just had incredible video or a huge tree being uprooted

I am watching trees in my son's back yard sway from the ground up. We are taking bets on which one drops first. They are bending southward.

DIL just showed me a PIC of a poor little stingray sitting on a sidewalk. And another of a shark swimming about 3 feet from someone's porch.

Jacksonville Int'l with a gust to 56 kt = 64 mph. Getting close to hurricane force gusts even away from the coast.

Yeah, I am hanging in there. It has been a historic day here in NE Florida and it ended up being not a direct landfall. Still getting all kinds of problems throughout the area, especially out the Beaches, St.Augustine and down to Daytona Beach.

Still have about another hour or 90 minutes of rough conditions until the eyewall lifts N NE away from our coast to take away these severe conditions. Getting brushed by major hurricane certainly was a big punch in the gut for us across the region for sure! But Thank God that the eyewall stayed just far enough off the coast or else catastrophic conditions woukd have been realized today all across this region. 20 miles west of the trackand I shudder as to what could have happened around here!!

THey are reporting a flash flood emergency south of Fla 200 , officials called the tv station and told them to relay to the public evacuate immediately. Everyone else stay put. Everyone was suppose to have evacuated already, but of course some didn't it appears.

Matt's been hanging around land for awhile but still has a nice outflow pattern.

checking in from just west of ICW jacksonville beach

gusts have approached 70MPH in our area.

cars were shaking in driveway and rain was sideways...so just an estimate from experience.

looks like the NE turn has commenced...stay safe folks in Ga SC.

dont want to even think about my house on the ICW...judging from videos of the surge.

:(

Matthew still has a decent structure but clearly is a weakening system.

Everyone stay safe!
