Yeah, that goes especially for my house! This house is 100+ years old, and the heating system is the same as it's been since we moved here in '90, and older than that yet! Works good though! But I doubt my mom will be ready to turn her on just yet! She doesn't like the dry heat, me, I sit right next to a vent with a blanket!! I just can't believe it is almost time for all that already, it's still Septeber! Things are happening this year about 2-3 weeks earlier than normal, I hope that means we will have a different (MORE WET) pattern this fall and winter!

Jacki... we have the heater on this afternoon here. Brr! We may see some patchy frost here tonight, but only in low lying areas.

Frost and Freeze Advisories are issued in the Fall and Spring. So, there is no such thing as the first ones of the season.
However, for areas that don't normally see frost and freezes (the southeastern United States)... they are issued whenever the temperature falls to near or just below freezing, no matter how many times between December and March.

Well Tom there is such a thing as far as First Frost and or freeze of the season goes and it has to do more with the GROWING SEASON farther north.....................This is why the term is used so often this time of the year farther north and makes its way south as does the colder air and what most consider the end of the growing season which is usually either considered by either the frost and or freeze which depends on what you are growing!!!!...........Usually after the first freeze you wont see them again in the same area up north untill the following growing season which happens to be Spring...........

Hope this helps some

BTW we may be seeing our first frost of the season as well later this week as temps at night are supposed to be dipping into the mid 30s towards the end of the week!!!!!!!

Harry, I know full well that areas are going to see their first frost/freeze advisories. The first frost/freeze advisories and the first frost and freeze are two different things.

No offense to what Jacki posted.

It looks like whatever term you call it... The Quad Cities may not get a frost tonight. Current dewpoint is 37º so I don't think that it is looking too likely. Plus... it is cloudy. There is still a small chance, but the chances are much better back toward Des Moines where the dewpoint is 31º and the skies are clear. Winds are slightly lighter there, too.
