Re: Texas Winter 2016-2017
I have not been following each model run like I do sometimes, but my general feel is that not much has really changed over the past few days for next week. Cold temps at the surface here with a SW or SW coastal trough promoting SW for aloft. So questions are how strong do the freezing temps hold and what will the SW trough do. Will it send multiple shortwaves all week or hold together and drift around or even come in east in one chunk. Hopefully it produces some sort of sleet or snow.

Not much change... First part of Christmas Eve is warm.... last part and Christmas is chilly.
We really won't hone in on this forecast until Wednesday at best. I'm still not convinced of anything past Tuesday.

It is kind of ironic how as soon as that happened and the NWS put out that graphic it's been storm cancel pretty much.

Nope that was my fault, my friend said she had a dream about snow and I told parts of Texas could get some wintry weather next week. Whenever I tell people that it never happens.

Wow, it was 3 degrees when I went for Breakfast this morning with a -14 degrees windchill. I probably should have had 2 layers of pants on but I was almost too warm with my sweat shirt and coat this morning. I should be able to survive the winter with those to combined as long as the surface temps dont hit -20 or lower when I come back to Ohio in January.

Yep. Same here. I know exactly what you mean. Anytime I mention anything winter weather related it 99% of the time doesn't happen.

The forecast for my area has been pretty consistent for the last few days. High of 51 for Saturday with a low of 13 that night and a 30% chance of snow early. Sunday a high of 27 with a low of 12 and a high of 34 for Monday which is a little higher than the original forecast of 31.

I'm actually a bit worried, going from a high of 12 degrees to a high of 70 degrees is not good for my health. It's also gonna feel really hot after I've gotten used to the cold.

Euro doesn't look like anything newsworthy this run through 216 hours... Christmas storm is taking shape out west. Mid week is too warm.
Christmas Eve would be mild with a front Christmas morning it appears. Starting to see some consistency there.

On both the GFS and Euro (per my WeatherBell ECMWF output), it seems that there is a 18-24 hour warm up on Christmas Eve, then it goes chilly again.
I'd like to see that brief warm up get squashed, but I'm not going to be too picky from 220+ out.

Same here ... we're roughly 5-6 degrees off where the forecast was. Temps barely crossing the 50-degree threshold early this afternoon. Very thick cloud cover and we had a morning full of cold, misty, drizzle.

I'm more concerned about the lack of rain... Euro is dry until Christmas Eve. GFS does have some rain at mid-week next week.

Well NWS Fort Worth brought the snow line a good bit further south for Saturday night. Further south than I-20.

Good rain event December 22nd-23rd on the GFS this run. We need it because the drought has returned to DFW on the update today.
Even bigger rain event Christmas Eve
Christmas morning flood
Temps are near 70 Christmas predawn... falling in the daylight hours
