Same for my place - yesterday, the NWS was saying tomorrow night would be 29, now it has been lowered a notch to 28. I guess it's time to bring in the potted plants. :cold:

There's no doubt that this front will be the one to send temps below freezing even here in the core of Austin. It's going to be a good stretch of below freezing temps as well so it would be a good idea for everyone across most if not all of Texas to protect pets, plants and pipes.

Yes I believe this was a pre-frontal thingamajiggy. As I look to the North and West there's a solid line of clouds advancing southeastward. This may be the freezer dropping the mic.

Does anyone know if the front is supposed to continue at the same speed, slow down or speed up as it heads SE this afternoon/evening? Thanks in advance.

I just finished bringing in my potted plants, wrapping spigots, and watering my newest in the ground landscape plants with liquid seaweed. Seaweed supposed to lower the freezing point.

Went through one of those evening before opening of duck season 2010. It was close to 80 at 4.30 p.m., with winds out of the south. Then over a two minute period, the wind died and then whipped around from the north. Hellacious winds that night. By 5.00 a.m., it had cooled down to around 32.

You know that's a pretty good idea, didn't think about that. Oh and I can't forget people of course. It's gonna be a shock since it's been quite awhile since we've seen such cold temps. I'm going to an event tonight so gotta dress warm enough to walk a few blocks Downtown especially since I had surgery earlier this week for a hernia. So far so good recovery is going well but don't want to risk getting sick by not being warm enough.

Notice in the image that the Jet Stream plunges into Texas with a very cold upper trough across the center of the Lower 48. While it is still too soon to know with any certainty exactly what our sensible weather may bring, typically when we see a diving jet stream and a neutral to almost negative tilted trough advancing across Texas, there is some potential for weather worries. We will continue to monitor throughout the coming week. Meanwhile prepare for the Arctic chill headed our way tonight. The latest guidance is suggesting the possibility of freezing temperatures to the Coast early Monday morning if the high clouds delay moving back overhead.

OY!! The possibilities!! :cold: :froze: :double:

Well, Christmas Eve is just a week out so maybe this is something that can be consistent as we get into next week.

I am driving down to North Texas to visit family next weekend for the Christmas break, so I am hoping I can bring some colder temps and some frozen precip with me! :cold:

I was looking at the Weather Channel. I'd say the NWS forecast is quite overdone for this event, considering what is mentioned on their discussions.

Long time lurker, first post.

Dude you have been trolling this thread for a couple of weeks now. This seems to be a fun positive community, please don't mess with that.

FYI- always have more confidence in the NWS than the "weather" channel.

Care to explain with facts? You've got one chance here ... but that branch you're on right now ... sounds like it's cracking.

Just left the HEB in Midland. It was 79 when I got in my car to head home, and 44 when I got out about 5 minutes later.

I won't be surprised to see those low 40s warm up to upper 40s, then lower 50s.

No freeze warning yet for Fort Bend, Brazoria, Galveston, or other southern/coastal counties. The only reason Harris county is under one is because of certain northwesterly areas; central Houston itself (and even IAH) likely won't freeze during this event. A high cloud deck will roll right in, and stop the freeze from happening; I've seen it every time after a cold front.

Direct snippet from the latest forecast discussion out of NWS Houston/Galveston. Nothing about a cloud deck rolling in. Mentions Freeze Warning forthcoming:

"Clear skies and lighter winds with better radiational cooling
though still some winds will set the stage for even colder
temperatures Sunday night/Monday morning. Hard freeze looks likely
across the northern counties (Brenham to Huntsville to Groveton
temperatures 20-25) and freezing temperatures a good bet all the
way to the coast excluding the immediate coast Monday morning.
Freeze warnings will be needed for the southern counties Sunday
night and Monday morning."
