I looked at the SREF Plume last night and it had nearly nothing lol.

I am just getting home on a night I planned to be following this all evening. This is the first positive thing tonight I have seen so far to at least SEE some snow fall. Thanks for posting. I was going to jump into other HiRes models but I think I'll take this and go to sleep so I can wake up earlier and see if there is any new fun to be had. I like this one b/c it's right when the kids get out of school. Nothing worse than being in school while it's snowing and getting out and it's all gone.

Well let's hope for no surprises when the High schools release, teens driving on slick snow that accumulates fast in not good. In one of snows in 2015 I had to drive in it for the first time, it happened to be that real slick snow that occurs with good snow growth and with low visibilities due to heavy snow falling it made the ride home from school painful. Good thing we had a back way through a neighborhood that we took. There wasn't much traffic through there.

HRRR has been suggesting 5-10 am roughly for patchy freezing drizzle in the AUS area.

This is from our new back yard security camera. It's just drizzle but I had to go outside and be sure it wasn't.

Nothing here in the city, but we had some rain earlier this afternoon just about the time the temps started back down. Currently 43f at my house.

Good point. For me it is for middle schoolers so we will be driving. I'm just assuming this is pretty to look at snow, not impacting snow. I don't wish any bad conditions for teen drivers of course.

Although when I was in high school and it snowed and everyone else in town was locked in their house, I would drive to a big parking lot and do donuts, power slides etc. While it sounds like I was just being an idiot, which is partially true, that's how I learned how to drive in snow and ice.

Are the local mets completely underestimating this possibility? None of them seem to want to mention it. Could this be a surprising mess tomorrow?

Red River counties now under a Winter Weather Advisory for later today (11 a.m. until 6 p.m.). Fort Worth NWS saying up to to 1-inch of snow is possible.

We'll see, so far nothing overnight at my house in Denison, not even a flurry. Just good and cold at 22 degrees with a wind chill of 9 degrees at the moment.

About an hour north of here, decent snowfall occurring with some accumulation in portions of Oklahoma near Interstate 40.

Radar returns and below freezing in Austin and San Antonio with a dp in the mid teens. Not sure if anything is reaching the ground?

DFW and Red River folks midday to afternoon is your period to watch

Also not all is lost in the medium to long range.

Models look interesting as far as snow this afternoon in the NE TX. HRRR continues shifting the band south and now has a band of 0.5 to 2 inch amounts all along I-30 and a dusting down to I-20.

Also HRRR and RGEM is really cold. Teens by 9pm and even low to mid teens along the Red River. Maybe pockets of single digits in the northern 'burbs by morning Sat?

I was just looking back at GFS runs from this past weekend to early week and the GFS had DFW today in the mid 40s for highs. Lows in the upper 20s. It turns out highs may be in the mid 20s and lows in the mid teens. -EPO > GFS
2016 12 25 132.39
2016 12 26 178.51
2016 12 27 256.96
2016 12 28 187.20
2016 12 29 -48.90
2016 12 30 -162.40
2016 12 31 -209.44
2017 01 01 -280.70
2017 01 02 -344.36
2017 01 03 -391.84

Unless I"m mistaken this is the lowest daily readings we have seen of the EPO in a long time in winter. -411 back in early December of 2009

It's a blustery 19° with very light snow in west Sherman right now. Spotty reports from other spots in Grayson County as well. I'll report further if it picks up or there's any decent accumulation.

Here. We. Go. :froze:

Shocking news to report ... the models underestimated the cold.

Highs for Austin today are below freezing. That's a several degree departure from yesterday and what I would call a significant one. Patchy freezing precip being reported in Hays and Bastrop counties with some bridges icing over. Nothing much in Travis County as best as I can tell.

Thirty minutes ago I went out to start my Tundra and it was just cold (22 wind chill). Now I have ice on my Tundra and my wife's car and I just started her's. I hope she doesn't leave for early or I am in trouble. Also, my gate latch was iced shut. Myradar shows we have snow in Weimar, just freezing rain.

Stay Warm and be Safe My Friends.
