700mb RH is starting to dry which means this event is winding down. Question now is, how low do we go? 850mb temps have been sitting between -10 to -12F, how's that for cold

I guess we better enjoy the cold while we can. Next week looks to be a scorcher and from the forecast, above average temps after that.

As orangeblood and others have mentioned (Bastardi mentioned it today too), don't be too surprised if that advertised warm-up gets blunted a bit.

I just a call from my son, who was supposed to be going to Norman,OK from Ft Worth to meet with his Army Reserve company, said I35 north was closed. He said he concealed company drill in Norman. Be careful in the DFW area.

It helps makes the rest of the winter less bitter. Should there be another event we won't be so on the edge about it. We still have friends down south still waiting though...

It's well beyond being "bummed out." I think the phrase "soul-blackening disillusionment" covers it.

But I won't say anymore. Y'all are probably sick of seeing that. And I'm sick of typing it. I'm sure there are folks on here who read this and are thinking "is he whining again? Tell him to move up north if he wants snow." And I still contend that we get less winter weather events here in Austin than we used to. I don't agree that it's a temporary blip or that we got "spoiled." In fact, I'm going to do some research on it and see if I'm right or wrong.

A dusting of snow so far in Texarkana today. However, the radar shows that more is on the way, probably will end up with an inch. As far as Austin, Texas snowfall over the past 50 years, I did research on it last year that showed the 60's was the glory decade for snowfall in the Austin area. There were several years when Austin received 5+ inches of snow from one event.

DFW really lucked out with this event that an area of qpf blossomed over the core metro counties. East, west, south, and a dry slot slightly to the north had very little.



It'll be interesting to see the temperature pockets this evening.

Hard Freeze Warning in effect for tonight generally from I-10 north (Harris County not included)

Freeze Warning all other counties.

Sleet, rain, snow ending across SE TX with the latest report of sleet/snow mix coming from the Dayton area of Liberty County. Radar shows last returns exiting into Galveston Bay at this time. Surface temperatures have continued to slowly cool today with almost all areas having remained in the low to mid 30’s. Freeze line has been along and NW of a line from Huntsville to Conroe to Cypress to Katy to Sugar Land where light accumulations of freezing rain on elevated surfaces has occurred. Freeze line will move SE early this evening with temperatures falling into the 20’s this evening over much of the area.

Will not make any adjustments to the expected overnight lows at this time…but emphasize that a damaging freeze is likely both Saturday morning and again Sunday morning and protective actions should be taken to protect pipes, pets/livestock, and plants. Make sure sprinkler backflow preventers are drained, shut off, and covered and all exposed outside pipes are covered.

While most roadways and bridges will completely dry this evening before temperatures fall cold enough to freeze, large puddles from the rainfall today will freeze overnight even on surface streets as temperatures fall well into the 20’s. Caution should be used if traveling even on surface streets, parking lots, ect tonight until about 1000am on Saturday morning.

Them's some cold temperatures!! We had sleet a couple of times at our house in the Spring Branch area today along with freezing temps since around 8am this morning. Nothing stuck due to the ground warmth but did see some freezing rain in the area with light accumulation. Currently sitting at 31f with a feels like of 24f. With the winds earlier today we had some 18f feels like.

If you decide to dig, look back FURTHER than what you remember. Like into the 1900-1960 era. I've had some discussions in other places to the effect that what we remember as kids (1960s and 70s) was abnormally cold and snowy and that what we've seen in the 90s and beyond in more 'normal' over longer periods.

it'll be interesting because it's showing where the pocket of snow is. There's some weak N-S oriented flurries/banding at the low levels over DFW near lakes again right now. Though I'm not sure if what is going on now is related to lake effect?

Still snowing here in Denison. Had a pretty good burst of moderate snow a short while ago. We're over an inch but I think under two inches.

My street is completely snow packed. And some bridges are shut down around Sherman. Driving is pretty trick in places.

Still showing 18 degrees here. If skies do in fact clear tonight, with fresh snow cover, it's going to be one of the coldest nights in a LONG time.

NBC 5 showed a low of 17 at DFW in the morning. I said to myself that seems way too high. It's already low 20's and the sun has yet to set. And with clearing forecasted overnight, look out below.
