That's the spirit! Let's enjoy the warmth. Since the official start of "winter" in December, I've had the pleasure of turning on my AC on 19 days (including today), vs. the heater on only 8 days. I'm not yet buying into any major pattern change at the end of January. We'll see more cold air, for sure, but nothing like we saw earlier this month.

That was some "winter" weather event last night ...

Got close to an inch of rain here at the Portastorm Weather Center in scenic southwest Travis County. Had a few moments of interest when we had a tornadic-warned cell about 40 miles southwest of my house moving in my direction ... but the cell, thankfully, trended downward in strength and by the time it rolled over my house there was some winds to 35-40, heavy rain, and a few cloud-to-ground lightning strikes nearby.

Lotta chasers out yesterday in/near Del Rio, the Hill Country, and North Central/North Texas.

Alright enough of this Spring weather ... dang it ... we need some real winter back ... the kind that makes wxman57 absolutely miserable!

I do not believe this is legit.

FWD tweeted at 8:47PM confirmed tornado near Grand Prairie.

It was pitch black then. That photo depicts around sunset.

I am considering running for Governor.

My platform will be very narrowly focused, shallow and selfish. Cut down every mountain cedar/juniper tree in Texas. Outlaw them.

I pray the rain will stop this madness, it's killing me.

I had thought the same thing when I saw it last night. But then maybe it's lightning and not sunset. It would be a well-timed pic if it was lightning.

Now that we got the rain out of the way, let's work on brining winter back!

I've had enough of this stupid winter... cold for 2-3 days, then weeks of summer like temps; running the AC, wearing shorts, drinking cold beer, grilling, even watching some bikini babes sunbathing on the beach from off my front porch... well if we gonna have summer like temps then we should have at least some tropical stuff to track and follow.... Maybe the hurricane season will be moved up to April 1st!!! Footnote: I did get to experience a couple of inches of snow, temps at 8 degrees with -1 degree wind chill in Nashville a couple of weeks ago.... So I'm really good with winter being over... come on summer....

That all sounds pretty good, Frank, except for the part about "cold for 2-3 days". I think I'll give my yard a final mowing this evening to mulch all remaining leaves and knock down the weeds that have popped up. Pacific front Saturday night should cool us down to only slightly above normal here in Houston on Sunday, but slightly below normal on Monday. May have to turn my heater back on Sunday and keep it on for a while. Nothing remotely as cold as Jan 6-8, but cold enough for me.

IIRC, juniper is not a native plant. Count me in.

Absolutely rotten winter of 2016-2017 continues for my area. Another whole week of daytime temps in the middle of winter in the mid to upper 70s. Won't fall below 60 degrees all week either. The carnage of the most damaging freeze in years continues to grow in my yard. I had plants that easily survived the heavy ice storms and below 20 temperatures of three winters ago turn completely brown this time around. Could it have been the high winds combined with low 20s? Either way everything is ugly and the weather sucks :grr: .

You're complaining about warm and cold temps at the same time. As for the cold, it's important that plants are thoroughly watered prior to a hard freeze. The increased moisture content will help to prevent freeze damage, as chilling the moisture inside the plants takes a good bit of energy. Strong winds would remove moisture from plants, making them more susceptible to freeze damage. The only freeze damage in my yard was the bananas. Nothing could have saved them with a low of 22. They're nearly 20 ft tall - too tall to cover, and watering them wouldn't have helped. They'll be back soon, though, as long as there are roots underground.

Still warm to about the end of the month. Pacific pattern improves, but not ideal through the final few days per ensembles. May cool off behind systems but nothing arctic. +PNA/-EPO is still probable shortly after that period but beyond sight right now.
