NHC Update"Recon. this afternoon!

#1 Postby Stormcenter » Tue Sep 30, 2003 10:10 am

Read for yourself. It does NOT mention the BOC blob. The main focus seems to be the central GOM blob.

Nws Tpc/National Hurricane Center Miami Fl

Statement as of 11:30 am EDT on September 30, 2003

for the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico...
The Hydrometeorological Prediction Center is issuing advisories on
Tropical Storm Kate...located 575 miles southwest of Lajes in the
Azores Islands.
A large...broad area of low pressure...with winds gusting to gale
force in the central Gulf of Mexico... is located northwest of the
Yucatan Peninsula and continues to drift northwest. Thunderstorm
activity has increased northeast of the center...but the system as
a whole remains disorganized. While upper level winds and Gulf
water temperatures favor development...this low is in close
proximity to a frontal zone...so development into a tropical
cyclone should be slow to occur. This low will continue to lure
moisture northward into the frontal zone to its northeast...acting
as a focus for continued heavy rains and possible flooding across
the Florida peninsula and producing gale-force gusts across
portions of the Gulf of Mexico for the foreseeable future.
Reconaissance aircraft will investigate this system early this
afternoon.
Elsewhere...tropical storm formation is not expected through
Wednesday

Thanks for the update. Sort of figured Recon. would fly today. Guess it's time to tie down the lawn items and stock up on snacks.

Notice that its the HPC, not the TPC that's calling these now. Is this a change or a hostile takeover :D

The Hydrometeorological Prediction Center is issuing advisories on Hurricane Kate.

The National Hurricane Center/Tropical Prediction Center is monitoring the tropical disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico.
