DFW airport has picked up 1.05" of rain since last night. Not too bad considering.

Meteorological summer averages 7.86" of rain for all of June, July, and August. Since June 1st the airport has received to date 9.49" guaranteeing a wetter than normal summer for DFW regardless of what happens the rest of the way.

Of the past 10 years (decade) We've had 4 above average rainfall summers including this one. 2007, 2014, 2016, and now 2017.

Interesting tweet...

"@NWSFortWorth -- While not a record, 84°F high at #DFW is 4th coolest high for this date. 80 still the record from 1903. How did you enjoy the cool day?"

I've been watching this. Hrrr show some 4 inch totals close to my area and nam dumps a ton of rain but kind of keeps it in southeast Oklahoma. We shall see.

Texarkana has received 3.75" of rain over the past two days. We received an 1" of rain over night when there was only 20% chance. Looks like more rain is on the way later tonight.

Storms are just starting to push SE across the Red River but it looks like they will probably miss move of DFW. Unless, you consider places like Paris far NE burbs lol

Man, what a storm - sure hope campers at Lake Texoma took shelter!

KXII-TV met Tom Hale said the top of this one was 58,000 feet. Must have been that high right over my house, it was crazy here for a little while.

Torrential rain, crazy lightning, some dime sized hail (not here at my house though), and a report of a wall cloud NW of Sherman.

Flood Advisory
National Weather Service Fort Worth TX
1144 PM CDT SUN JUL 2 2017

Grayson TX-
1144 PM CDT SUN JUL 2 2017

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth has issued a

* Flood Advisory for Minor Flooding in Poor Drainage Areas for...
Grayson County in north central Texas...

* Until 145 AM CDT.

* At 1142 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms that were
producing heavy rainfall across Central Grayson County. Excessive
runoff from these thunderstorms will cause minor flooding. Areas
that are low lying or usually experience poor drainage are most
likely to experience flooding. This means some low water crossings
in the region may become impassable. Up to two inches of rain have
already fallen with another inch possible in the next 2 hours.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Sherman, Denison, Whitesboro, Howe, Pottsboro, Collinsville,
Whitewright, Bells, Tom Bean, Savoy, Knollwood, Dorchester,
Eisenhower State Park, southern Lake Texoma, Southmayd, Sadler and
Luella. This includes US Highway 82.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Over an 1" of rain over night and still raining. That brings the 3 day total to a little over 4.5".

Red River has been the sweet spot past few days. Seasonably hot for the rest of us this week. Mid to upper 90s is not too extraordinary, however dewpoints will remain high making it feel well over 100. High dewpoints has been the hallmark so far this summer

Several guidance are suggesting possible heavy rain for north texas the next 24-48 hours, possibly a round as early as tonight. With 4th events keep a lookout. Those who get rain could get quite a bit.

Looks like the wetness will continue for North and North East Texas for the rest of the week:

The NAM 3k shows potential for flash flooding in parts of DFW over the next few days. While the heaviest rain last night stayed well NE of DFW a pretty intense little storm formed on the outflow boundary and soaked us here in southern Collin County.

An emerging theme this summer seems to be for the models to build the ridge eastward too aggressively. The longer range keeps looking hot and dry but then we end up getting rain. Unfortunately, this hasn't helped our friends down south in Austin and San Antonio.

Could be a noisy morning for DFW per 3k NAM. It's also very wet tomorrow. One of the more interesting July 4ths in recent memory if true. Possibly another complex into Weds morning. An above average rainfall July is pretty much looking booked.

Image

Just FYI the most rainfall recorded at the airport on July 4th is 3.20" set one year ago.

That is one of the better looking complexes pointed towards DFW in a while. I hate when this happens b/c I can't help but get up at 2:00 am or so and check the radar...

The continuous NW flow from the ridge being further west like you mentioned has kept it quite interesting. Adding that to our persistent moisture quality via very high dew points has made some of these good rain makers once they fire off the high plains and roll downhill. Quite similar upper pattern to July 2007.
