Now are we talking about September fall or wait till December fall?!

I hope we don't have those extended summers we've had since 2013

Yeah, I've been here since beginning of October 2014 and each year it's been hot most of the fall(at least 2014 had a cold November) lol but 2015/2016... pfft...

September fall. Can't wait for the first "cold" front to bring us down to the 80s with dry air.

Definitely September fall. You shouldn't have to wear shorts and a tshirt on Halloween, while pouring sweat, trick or treating with the kids.

Austin for the month of July is already averaging between 3.8 and 4.2 degrees above normal per the monthly averages. I swear summers are getting hotter. Or else my tolerance for the heat has weakened. Or both.

It's not you Porta, the years are getting hotter. There is no argument about it when looking at the readings from your stations. Below normal months are now isolated and endangered. It's been this way for awhile now. It's a broken record calling the next month above normal. While a few degrees above normal is not extremely noteworthy the duration has been.

If you look at the NWS record books over the last 20 years or so, our nighttime lows have gotten much warmer. Doesn't matter the season and not entirely due to heat island. Outlying areas, rural, smaller metros are almost always above normal as well. The magnitude of the departure from normal lows is staggering and has had the biggest impact on our monthly averages trending up.

This is compared to a 1981 - present normal calc. by NWS. If prior to 1981 were included in the averages it'd be even more pronounced.

I was reading an article the other day on the latest climate report from NOAA about how this is the United States' 2nd warmest on record, year to date. I'm sure most of yall have seen it as well.

I haven't read any articles or even looked at data, but I know we are definitely warmer than we have been. I've been in Houston for 45 years, so I've seen "heat island" and its' effects grow etc. My thought process is besides the obvious things such as growth of the urban areas and such what is causing this "warm up"? Are we in a natural warming period or what can this scientifically be attributed to? I'm interested in educated opinions and respectful discussion, not a global warming debate. Not saying it can't be discussed but please bring data or at least educated thoughts into the discussion-NO POLITICS!!

Urban growth is probably the easiest short term reason. Anything else is more gray area and not something that can be cleanly discussed in my personal opinion. Regardless of it, there is no doubt, the numbers are what the numbers are, that warmer months at the various stations are quickly outnumbering cooler than normal and it's not even a close race. Because of the base changing 30 year periods, it's not today compared to 1900 it is a moving average. So the periods now is warmer at those stations than the past 30 years etc.

Earth supposedly, from what ive read, is going through a major cooling phase but the US seems to be getting warmer and warmer. Population density and urban growth? It would be interesting to see the research and local numbers in other parts of the world. Also, these readings I'm sure are being taken in city settings. On a much smaller scale; I can take a temperature reading in Wichita Falls and it will read anywhere from 2-5 degrees warmer than out where I live, during the summer and winter.

Remember, you would rather have 92 with a dewpoint of 74 than a temperature of 105 with a dewpoint of 55. :)

At some point Climo will win and we will have a heat wave but the GFS has been sucking majorly in the long range.

Here's the thing that really kicked me in the gut ... I saw a Weather Channel tweet yesterday with a map of the USA and the hottest times of the year, on average, for each state. We're still about a month away from south central Texas' warmest time of the year on average.

I appreciate the posts today. Y'all had some good perspectives.

Yeah the Euro has nothing worse than this week through day 10.

Hopefully it can be a quick heat wave in August

We still have 2 weeks here in DFW until the highest averages which last into Mid August
