Re: Texas Summer 2017
Normally this time of year the fam and I are in Mexico for two weeks where the weather is perfect. Outside Mexico City in the mountains near Acambaro it rains nightly with morning temps in the 50's and afternoon temps in the upper 70's. Everyday. Tall stalks of corn crops as far as the eye can see, all lush and green and ready for picking. I always miss home, but when the airplane door opens and that heat and humidity punch you in the face upon returning to DFW, I wonder why we had to come back. Texas is home and will be for the foreseeable future. I know of Northerners flocking south during winter, I wonder if Southerners flock to cooler climates in the summer outside of a vacation?

We use to make travel to Wisconsin (Dells) for summer and it was awesome! Sure they had "heat waves" in the 80s every few weeks but it always cooled back to the 70s. Lake Winnebago Walleye fishing in mid summer is the best. For me it was like eternal spring. That's what northerners love summer for. Their summer is essentially our Spring and Fall, summer is also their rainy season. When they get "heat waves" in the 90s it becomes bad since many don't have AC.

Yeah, we always took vacations to southern California for a couple weeks during the Summers as a kid to see my relatives out there. I always felt cold getting off the plane in Los Angeles when the 70s got me. After two weeks there getting used to it, then heading back getting off the plane in San Antonio, it felt like a blast furnace, blazing inferno hitting me right square in the face. I felt like I couldn't breathe!
I, too, wondered why couldn't stay in California longer, and just got depressed coming back here. Then the cold fronts came eventually, with the rain. It just takes so long.
I have lived in Texas over 40 years, and have become accustomed to the misery. I still loathe it. You can't play with your kids in it more than a half hour without your kids complaining it's too hot to play outside. So, either bath water warm swimming pools or an air-conditioned play place, which there are no shortage of around here, thank goodness!
I truly don't get people who love the heat. My deal is you can put a lot of clothes on to keep you warm, you can only take so many clothes off, and I personally can't enjoy it. I get cranky in the heat, as my wife can testify. But I understand I can't control how hot it gets outside.

My dream is to have a house up north in a place to live in, like Alaska, from May through September.

Re: Texas Summer 2017
DFW hit 100 for the 4th time this summer, Austin again for the millionth time this summer. It's easier to count days that weren't 100 down there actually. Another shot tomorrow and perhaps slight cool down to mid upper 90s. Then blast furnace kicks in late week anywhere from 103-106 that may linger through early August.

I can't sleep anymore so might as well chime in.
Like you weatherdude, I would occasionally go off to visit my grandmother and family in Los Angeles in the summer. It was interesting to me because it was litterally like a broken record but not in a bad way. Wake up to cool temps and overcast skies then by noon sun comes out and clear skies with temps roughly about 80 and almost no humidity and it was like that every single day that I was there. Personally I'd get bored of the same weather after awhile but at least it was a break from our summers.

And yes, I take responsibility...sigh

Way to jinx us!

Re: Texas Summer 2017
Tied the record high today at Camp Mabry with 104 degrees. The airport had 100.
I've enjoyed the perspectives on our summer weather. I pretty much agree with most of you in that my tolerance of our summer weather slightly diminishes each year. Mrs. Portastorm and I have mulled over moving after retirement to cooler locations. If triple digit highs are becoming the new normal ... and it sure seems that way ... I could do without that.

If you are bored and need some weather fun, just to our southwest in the EPAC Nine-E (possibly Hilary) is going to be a monster hurricane. Won't bring us any rain, but it's the closest thing to Texas that's mildly interesting. Could be high tier Cat 4, maybe a run at Cat 5.

I hope the EPAC stays active into fall and we can get a recurving storm's moisture. We can get a lot of good rainfall from those types of storms.

Late Sept to October is prime time for EPAC recurves, not a coincidence it is also our second wet season in Texas.

Re: Texas Summer 2017
GFS is even worse than last night's disaster
Dallas near 110 degrees around July 30-August 3(would be near record highs from the infamous 2011)... morning lows barely get below 90 a couple days...(all time highest low is 86 from the infamous 2011)
I hope this is overdone like the cold always is...

My family and I went to Barbados last month and most of the islanders we talked to told us that Canada was the prime vacation place for them. I guess they wanted to escape the heat for their vacation, but in honesty I'd take their heat over ours.

2011 was my first year of 2 a days and it was dreadful. I remember waking up at 5 AM and it was already toasty and by 9 I was already burning up before I could put my Pads on. I'm glad I was a freshmen that year since our practices were a couple hours shorter and kept us out of the more intense heat.

EPS has started to back down and now just shows 100. Also, shows rain chances increasing across Texas over the next two weeks. The last few runs have been trending wetter. Maybe this upcoming stretch of heat and dry weather for DFW won't last much beyond next week?

Winter time post are almost exclusively focused on the DFW area.
Re: Texas Summer 2017
Call me pessimistic but I'm not sold on unforgiven forecasts of rain until we past climo peak of heat which is at or around August 10. I anticipate heat and 100s until then. These wetter calls by the models are nice but DFW hasn't seen a drop since 12 days ago. I hope I am wrong! This heat sucks...

Some of Texas's biggest floods come from East Pacific Hurricanes like Norma (1981), Tico (1983), Paine (1986), Roslyn (1986), Rosa (1994), Madeline (1998), Odile (2014), and Patricia (2015).
The October 1949 Texas Hurricane came from East Pacific.

Manuel in 2013 brought the Austin area flooding rains. Patricia (Oct) and Sandra (Nov) of 2015 brought DFW over 9" monthly totals each.

From Steve McCauley's Facebook page:
"Well, I think I have officially gone overboard now, but I care not; palm trees make me happy. I will eat next month.
And now that we have the hottest days ahead of us, I am in hopes that they can withstand the heat and prepare themselves for the coming cold this winter. It is with a little trepidation that I report that the same data analysis done last May that predicted a wet first half to our summer is also predicting early and perhaps SEVERE cold snaps in December.
I look forward to the challenge!"

Don't look now, but there are actually two or three thunderstorms to the northwest of Fort Worth...
