Re: Texas Summer 2017
Looks like SE TX is in play for some significant rain totals as of right now.

Re: Texas Summer 2017
Ex/future Harvey's moisture plume is rather large, in part because of it's messy lack of a strong core. That's actually good if you want to see rain more spread out across the state. The stronger it is, the more compact its shield of rain will be, the weaker the more broad.

If 0z GFS is right, major hurricane hits Texas by the weekend. From talk of beneficial rains, to multi billion disaster

I mean I love a good storm, but that's a bit too much for my liking. I pray that doesn't verify cuz that run literally puts me on the east side of the eye. No thank you.

Any hurricane is bad, a major is even worse. Especially short notice like this. It would be a very big blow to Texas coast residents. Again assumming these solutions verify.

Louisiana might actually get this storm the way the models are trending.

Re: Texas Summer 2017
every single GFS ensemble is in Texas and there's a bullseye between about Matagorda and Galveston

All of my life I've wanted to experience a hurricane, but definitely not what the GFS was showing. A cat 4 right over my house. Maybe a strong cat one or a weak cat 2 would be about as much as I'd ever want to experience so this run of the Euro pleases me much more than what the GFS was showing.

Its not what its put up to be. A TS might be a good experience, but a hurricane is more intense. Once you go through without electricity for days and no access to stores etc you realize the rush disappears fast. And dealing with insurance afterward is a headache.
I liken it to big hailstorms. It may be a rush to see one happen elsewhere but once it happens to you, you will always hope the next one misses you

Very true. No hot water or electricity is very humbling. It is something that is fascinating to experience at least once or twice though. Ive been through 3. Katrina in FLL, Ike in SL, Rita in Nacogdoches. Pretty elite list of Hurricanes.
Went through Hermine in Charleston during Labor day too last year, but not going to count that one.

A bad hurricane? I've talked to some folks that have gone through bad storms (Andrew, Katrina, etc.) and the aftermath is pure MISERY.
Whatever the remnants of Harvey become, this morning, it looks like the bull's eye continues to target Texas. Could be a bad hurricane in the making, time will tell. But I don't like the way the major flooding implications seem to be shaping up.

As long as we get at least 3" by next Thursday. It would be disappointing to have accumulated all this rain and not end up at the finish line being wettest summer ever

Re: Texas Summer 2017
Don't want major flooding or property damage, but the latest GFS run shows Austin on the dry side of this tropical storm, once again.
Memories of Tropical Storm Lee.

Texas[edit]
Despite bringing little rain to Texas, Lee produced gusts and rough surf along its coasts. Offshore Galveston, a man drowned after losing control of his bodyboard due to strong winds.[48] As Lee headed north inland over the Gulf Coast, high winds were reported as fueling up to sixty separate brush fires across Texas, which was suffering from exceptional drought conditions.[49] The largest of these occurred in Bastrop County just east of Austin, consuming roughly 34,000 acres; it forced thousands to evacuate and destroyed 1,554 homes.[50] In Gregg County, another fire burned down a home, which resulted in the deaths of two of its occupants.[49] The spreading fires burned nearly 118,500 acres (480 km²) of land, simultaneously demolishing an estimated 700 residences in a two-day period.[51]
