The landfall area keeps on moving further North. I will not be surprised when the cone of death moves to where it stalls offshore just south of the Texas Louisiana line as a Cat. 5.

NHC explicitly forecasting RI over the next 24 h with an intensity increase of 35 kt. You don't see that from them very often. Considering the state of affairs, I think it is definitely the right call.

Amazing loop there NDG, you can actually see the storms whip round the core and ripple around that eye that is about to poke out, super!

Looks like Joe Bastardi's call of the major hurricane drought ending this season is looking good unfortunately.

Isnt the SHIPS RI index showing a 70% chance of a 45kt increase?

Why do you say that? The odds of this staying over the GoM is becoming greater by the moment, and the odds of RI is getting higher and higher, so a Cat 4/5 is definitely not out of the question.

In the next 36 hours, yes. I'm sure this played a large role in their forecast. To be honest, if you made a checklist of all the things you would like to see for RI to happen, basically every box is checked off right now. Environment is good to go and so is the inner-core.

It does look like the Cirrus is thinning out and an eye may pop within a couple hours.

What you're stating is no where near what the NHC, the experts, are forecasting.. When you start mentioning a CAT 5 stalling off the coast of TX/LA, you're gonna freak some people out.

Best looking TS ive ever seen. Reminds me of Alex a bit with its deep pressure, winds lagging behind. That means its going to be a BIG storm(wide).

Re: ATL: HARVEY - Tropical Storm - Discussion:(Forecast to be a Major Hurricane at landfall)
In addition to the wide scale heavy rain/flooding threat, the wind and storm surge threat near and just north of landfall has drastically increased. 6 to 10+ feet of surge inundation expected.
