No they aren't. But with that piece/eddy of the loop current a little offshore, it might peak a hair before landfall in this case.

Which might slightly help keep the really intense winds from translating to the surface, but it probably wouldn't make too much of a difference in the grand scheme of things.

This is now forecast to be a major hurricane landfall. Please, as someone with training in disaster response and emergency services, I urge everyone in the path of this thing to take no chances. No that local fire, EMS, and police units will be rapidly overwhelmed in the core impact zones, with some rendered completely incapable of response. Hurricane-force winds are not kind to big, boxy vehicles like ambulances or fire trucks. Please do not use candles if you can avoid it, even if your power goes out. The fire threat is simply too high, and with hurricane winds blowing around, it will spread in record time.

Evacuate if you can, make all necessary preparations NOW if you can't. Stay safe, please.

How is it that no news station is picking up on this, okay, given it was just recently updated, but it has been clear that Harvey was a impending threat of some sort.

Recon's recent pass now shows a hurricane. The winds are starting to respond to the pressure drop. I bet the guys and gals at Air Force BMT will have a story to tell as Lackland AFB San-Antonio will be close enough to Harvey to bring heavy rains and winds of TS force. There brothers and sisters in arms who are the Air Force Hurricane Hunters are serving their country well. Them and NOAA.

I am prepped and ready here in Houston. Mostly concerned about the flooding here and getting to my patient across town.
