Re: ATL: HARVEY - Hurricane - Discussion
It's scary to think Harvey is exploding in strength 36 hours prior to landfall. Wow, if for some reason the storm were to speed up a little more, there might not be enough time for an eyewall replacement cycle and he could strike at peak intensity. Gonna be a nail-munching day tomorrow.

Re: ATL: HARVEY - Hurricane - Discussion
Dry air is already mixing out as a large burst is working its way around the northern eyewall and overshadowing the eye.
Shouldn't slow down its strengthening for long if there are already some hot towers going up in the eyewall.

This will always shake off any dry air that becomes entrained into the circulation as long as those hot towers continue to fire around the eyewall.

I would love to see that from an airplane.
Would look like a spiral staircase to heaven.

Eye drop had 977 mb with 10 kt surface winds, so good for 976 mb.

Little dry slot wrapping into center... Looks NW to me...
Agreed. Microwave imagery in the past 5-8 hours that that Harvey has indeed been dealing with dry air entrainment. Hopefully it stunts the rapid intensification.

Impressive considering it probably has gulped some drier air into the circulation, of course that was a very brief thing and its soon fired that back off again.
Anyway pretty quick strengthening still, suspect we will soon be in major hurricane territory, then it really is just a question of how far do we go down?

Re: ATL: HARVEY - Hurricane - Discussion
Harvey is a small cane right now so he's more susceptible to dry air intrusions, which could halt strengthening but at the same time makes him more likely to reintensify quickly.

Just a quick question, is there any good websites that are streaming the news about this at the moment? Appreciate it maybe a little early for 24hrs round coverage.

This storm (hurricane force wind is small) ... this is highly likely to rapidly intensifying due to that.

I understand this is several days out but what, if any, effects will reach Pensacola, FL? Wondering how prepared we should be.
Thank you all.

Its about that time. Looks like an eye is about to clear out shortly.
Also its unlikely that was dry air intrusion.

Perhaps sinking air due to the increasing eye wall organization.
