EDIT: Never mind, it just crashed.

If it wobbles west too much that would put Corpus Christi in the western or southwest eyewall.
That dopey mayor mccomb didnt issue an evacuation order

They did not evacuate Corpus? If Harvey starts his loop early that would be an epic bad decision.

Is this accurate?

This is was part of the question I wanted answered. I think the GFS and Euro have shifted it well north of Houston at this time. So I assume this wouldnt happen but I dont know.

Seeing the same thing. Some of these storms seem to stall out and try to avoid land as long as possible it seems. Like they have a mind of their own lol.

considering the size, relatively steady state nature of the cyclone and proximity to land, and the fact that the min for a cat 5 is 160mph (they go in 5 mph increments)...probably not very close at all. But it might touch the low end of a category 4. from a broader standpoint, there's too much knit picking over what category the storm is. the takeaway is this, the storm is a mature major cane and it is certain to do tremendous damage. think of it as a massive atmospheric crater. it took a long time to dig and it will take a long time to fill.

No mandatory evacuations in Corpus Christie?

!

The Weather Channel showed a video of him saying he will not make evacuation mandatory but emergency workers will not be risking their lives to rescue those who decide to stay.

Btw... I have a friend who moved from here [Dallas] to North Padre Island. Her electricity goes out for hours at a time on good days.

.

So the worst of both worlds? I don't understand why evacuations weren't made mandatory in this situation.

Why? Pressure has pretty much held steady since the last pass. It may make minimal cat 4, but 145 is out of reach imo. Not nearly enough time for that.

No knock on all my Texas people but that stubborn independent streak seems like it's engrained from an early age. I don't blame the mayor for not ordering a mandatory because a lot of people aren't going to listen anyway. As long as they did what they could to assist those who needed it and told the rest they were tsool if they stayed, I can respect that. Unfortunately there will be some number of preventable deaths.

Something not yet mentioned is that the predicted storm surge from Harvey is currently forecast to inundate the Braskem Seadrift Polypropylene refinery in Seadrift, Texas.

If the plant fails, I can't help but wonder how much environmental damage it would cause.

We had them with either Jeanne or Frances. Hated them. The storms were within days of each other and became a blur!
