SFMR was rain contaminated.

If the sfmr was rain contaminated, they wouldn't put it in the vdm

Interesting since it had like 26mm of rain

Don't think so. Still seeing a slow general northwest motion with a slight westward wobble over the past 30 mins.

Well with the 113 KTS surface wind in the VDM I guess it wasn't contaminated. Would make sense to upgrade to a 4, but after the NHC's hesitance to upgrade to a 3 earlier I wouldn't bank on it.

At least you still have power. Is the house wired for a generator?

If Harvey actually makes landfall as a cat 4 it would be the strongest landfalling system in the US since 2004 Charley (in terms of wind speed).
Not that a strong cat 3 or "weak" cat 4 makes a big difference though, it's still a very very dangerous scenario.

There wasn't really any surface wind to support upgrading to a 3 at the time prior to upgrade.

Amazing how it's held structure right up to the coast. Very impressive.

Does anyone know the strongest landfall hurricane in Texas by any chance as far as what category?

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

Harvey should be ashore soon, thankfully. I'm afraid that if the hurricane had slowed down it could have been a mid grade cat-4. Still a small possibility Harvey get upgraded. All of you in Texas please be safe......MGC

Appears to be a Hurricane in 1886 in the central Texas coast, around 130kt at landfall.

That's a darn sharp left on Mark's radar loop, hopefully it is not the start of endless left turns.
