Agreed. It's going to be a long day in the Houston metro area. It's weird because I can hear thunder and we're getting a bit of rain off and on--had a heavy band earlier this morning--but really it's not that bad. But I look at the radar and I know just a few miles away, where that thunder is coming from, they're getting a deluge. What a difference a few miles makes.

we won't know the full extent of the surge until the USGS folks can do their full post storm damage assessment. On TWC Sidel was standing on top of what I think I remember was an 8 foot seawall. He was up to his shins in water.

I don't know if that's supposed to be comforting or not. We're only in late August.

I haven't seen any reports on storm surge either, but I doubt anyone stuck around places that were supposed to be a foot under water and getting to those places for reports might be tough. I imagine those barrier islands got swamped but I'd imagine most the bridges and roads to get there are impassable.

It's going to be raining for a while, possibly days. If Harvey continues north you might get a break, hard to say.

Glad to hear it. Looks like less than a maximum of 64" and more than 20" per European.

Down to a cat 1 although its just west of you now.
Moving very slowly so probably lots more rain to come in your area..
Maybe you will get a few breaks between rain bands soon though.

Morning everyone. What a night last night for us Hurricane nerds. However, the pictures coming out of Rockport are showing devastating damage. I just hope folks left their mobile homes in that area. There's a lot of them there.

Now we wait for the pictures from the hot zone...Fire/Rescue resources will likely start to roll again today, but response times will be increased as they try to navigate debris in the roads...it will be their task, along with PD and NG, to reestablish contact with those still in the worst hit areas.

What was the rough diameter of the eyewall at landfall? Trying to get a rough estimate of what kind of winds they saw in North Seadrift, TX.

Port Lavaca tidal gauge has shown a prolonged surge of 6 feet for over 7 hours.

That report has been proven wrong due to equipment issues.
