I agree on the 3 looking damage in that piece. But I think there was way more smashed up and mangled damage in Rita, Ike and then on the Mississippi Gulf Coast with Katrina where anything not concrete piled up miles inland. I've actually never seen an area as wiped clean as that.

The utter flattening you saw in Rita and Katrina was generally surge+wave damage. Water is incredibly powerful. Almost nothing built for land use can stand up to a big ocean wave.

You can build for wind, which is what I did as my house is rated for 140-150 mph.... but not for water, at least not at a reasonable price... so you just elevate your house as much as you can, but at least a foot above the greatest known surge for your area... then you can sleep at night during the hurricane season..

Please, for the love of Pete, link or at least name a source. We had big problems with this last night.

Here is the direct link to more than 30 articles from various news stations in regards to the Coast guard rescues:

Everyone knows how to search, even me. All I was asking is if you could post something like: "TV news says Coast Guard rescues 15 in CC". It helps to know the source isn't some Facebook rumor or the like. Thanks.

No problem, I understand what you mean. But I'm simply citing how I got my link to those news outlets.

So far how has Harvey's evolution trended? Towards the GFS or Euro?

Those feeder bands seem to bring down the wind.
Then the power lines slap again and you have to reset the transformer.
The power crews are getting overworked.

I'm confused: the NHC's track (as of 7 pm CST) is still pointing North towards Brenham after two updates, and the precipitation amounts through Thursday for most of Harris County (Houston) is 15 and perhaps 20 inches. Most models that I'm seeing and discussion on other sites *and the Houston\Galveston NWS* consistently mention Catastrophic Rainfall amounts that are significantly higher, and many mention a turn back to the Gulf. Why does the NHC keep turning Harvey straight North and not using the same language as Houston\Galveston NWS?

I'm not sure because the one thing I neglected to actually watch was which models were spinning Harvey in which direction.

Oh and I wish we knew for sure what Harvey was going to do next! Back out to the GOM? Or inland and rain himself out? I have a lot to learn with systems, so I just sit back and read and try to learn! Thank you all for posting updates and helpful hints!! You all rock!!

Hi Nikki - I am in Texas City. I heard someone on The Weather Channel say they expected another strong band to move through our area around 1am.

Hopefully the 8 fatalities was false information, shared too early.

I'm watching this now too, and it struck me as being the one of the saddest news broadcasts ever, and I'm in Eastern NC, where we've had plenty of hurricane coverage. I think there are just plain old worn out, though.

They definitely have some bad news to deliver, the male anchor almost did it a few minutes ago, but the female anchor stopped him wanting additional confirmation.

I saw that, too!

She was right, tho. She didn't want him putting numbers of deceased out there without confirmation, I suspect.

Basically the two models are just not sure of what to do with Harvey. I think with this E/NE slow movement has to be worrisome for the NHC and TWC because none of the guidance showed this.

Rain and lightning here in Katy/Cinco Ranch area. Not much wind which is surprising me. The rain band we are in looks to be expanding instead of just moving on.
