Re: Texas Summer 2017
Catastrophic flooding down in southeast TX this morning. This was foreseen by many and guidance but unfortunately millions were likely complacent because Harvey did not "landfall" at their location. Some of this flooding is no different than storm surge.
Prayers to all down that way, thoughts to those emergency personnel risking their lives to rescue citizens. This next episode of the disaster is likely just beginning with many more days of torrential rain

Watching some of the news showing people wading through waist deep water to get out. Not advisable

Re: Texas Summer 2017
Incredible visuals coming out of Houston. Prayers to all of our fellow Texans affected by Harvey. Thank God we are not getting reports of numerous casualties. Governor Abbott mentioned earlier of only one so far. I think a lot of us on this forum are statistic junkies and the statistics with this hurricane are mind boggling and unfortunately it is not over for southeast Texas. Mother Nature is a power like no other, fascinating yet destructive at the same time.

Yes, as if the flooding wasn't bad enough, tornado warnings for several locales in Harris County. This may end up the costliest disaster in TX history

Re: Texas Summer 2017
IMO, this could be a Katrina-esque event unfolding. The desperate calls for help are very reminiscent of New Orleans in 2005.
Not trying to be overly dramatic, but I fear that more lives have been lost. That's an aspect of this that won't be known for days until the water recedes and officials can conduct searches in the worst flooded areas.
And of course, there's unfathomable rainfall totals still being forecasted on top of what has already fallen.

Re: Texas Summer 2017
Frank Billingsley is killing it with this system. He was at till at least 2 am last night when i came home, hes was back this am.
Now he is showing how some dry air is entrecnching into the system. This is good news.
Lots of dry air in west Texas.
Edit: He was here for Allison and did very well then too. Said Allison went down to matagorda (which i remember well) and she shot off to Louisiana, well he hopes that happens. He's doing great Met work right now.

Update from Jeff Lindner:
Catastrophic flooding continues across Harris and nearby surrounding counties.
Center of Harvey is nearly stationary north of Victoria with strong rain bands continuing to produce excessive rainfall over the region.
Recent rainfall of 1-3 inches has occurred especially in the ESE part of Harris County.
Storm totals are approaching 15-20 inches across nearly all of Harris County for the last 24 hours and 25-30 inches in the last 36 hours over the SE part of Harris County.
Massive record or near record flooding is occurring on nearly every watershed in Harris County.
Brays Bayou in Meyerland is nearing its 100-yr water surface elevation and many watersheds have reached or exceeded their 500-yr water surface elevation.
Many thousands of homes are currently floods some with very deep inundation
