They told me yesterday that is incorrect, yesterday it was around 50" so I guess after today's rains it estimates that 62" you found.

Well what's left of Harvey isn't moving very much the next 36-48 hours. It'll probably add another 15-25" of rain to those same locations. We're throwing around these daily numbers that alone would be historic at any other location. So as bad as things look now, it may get worse before it gets better unfortunately.

I'm seeing zero evidence that Harvey is still a TS this evening. Weak vortex offshore. Obs all around the NW Gulf are 20kts or less. Peak wind 25 kts near southern Matagorda Bay.

Another 7" today. Total rain over 30" now. Almost 70" for the year.

Prayers being sent out to our neighbors to the west, as a veteran of many flood events/hurricanes, my heart is heavy with concern for all of you in harm's way. We are nervously awaiting the deluge predicted here in coastal Louisiana.

While it may not be a TS anymore I doubt we'll see a downgrade so long as this is a threat to life or before it clearly goes extratropical.

People don't realize how big of a impact this storm has been to East Tx. Flooding everywhere. Boats going in to rescue people. We are not has bad has Houston but it is bad for our area. For some reason we get skipped over when it comes to reporting of what is going on here. We are small cities and towns with a lot of people trying to figure out what will happen. It is just sad. I saw multiple boats heading either to Houston or just locally to help rescue people. With more rain headed our way it will be an event we will never forget!!

I saw a photo of 59 in Cleveland and it's shocking ... just as bad as Houston.

It's always like that though. Media gives the big stories so it's kind of up to y'all to keep us all posted when safe to do so. That was my point about it having been quiet on the far north side of town but Fox Channel 26 was showing deep water rescues up there this afternoon. Videos and photos also help get the story out. Good luck to everyone in SE TX these next 48 hours.

Here in Lumberton we also have bayous way out of their banks and rivers also. I am within roughly 10 miles of either one. This has caused major problems in some neighborhoods to cause major flood were rescue is required. Went out this morning and saw locations where no one could get in or out of their neighborhoods . Cars/Trucks parked under overpasses so they would have a way to leave and being carried out by boat. Not looking good with the potential of more rain for several days. Southerngale's neighborhood which is down from me have people being rescued. I will try and show a video from her neighborhood when I can figure out how to. Everyone please be safe.

I know its not completely accurate.. Doppler estimates rarely are.. but I guess the point was I have never seen a Doppler estimate that high.. not even close...

besides just give or take a few feet lol

I agree.

By the way, anybody has an updated rainfall total for the Houston area? I just checked the Houston NWS page but the rain totals have not been updated since yesterday afternoon.

Here's a couple of resources.

Harris County Flood Warning System (7 day max 41.64" at Clear Creek and I-45 as of 9 pm)
NWS Houston/Galveston Public Information Statements (you may have to toggle trough the different versions on this one)
I think the WPC is updating totals about once per day as well.

I like the science of these decisions but it really doesn't matter. Rain and lots of it. This thread has become very somber.

They must just be keeping this as a tropical storm until it fully transitions, this thing barely looks tropical, if anything, subtropical. Maybe time over the ocean will bide it time from fully transitioning.

also there are a lot of doppler velocities al along the coast and just offshore in the showers a 1000 feet up into the 40kt range. would only take a heavier band to bring those down.

highest I have found is 45kts near freeport area

It looks kinda hybrid type to me. They can be just as dangerous as a moderate TS

I am so sorry you all are going through this. KPRC mentioned they can't get their reporters out to the further communities due to flooding, and expressed regret over not being to get there to report on others. Doubt that helps, but wanted you to know it was mentioned and as to why.

That and the convection heading towards Bolivar peninsula is showing 56kts to 62 kts at 1600 feet.

Living it, it still has a topical feel to it but less and less so today.

You'd think it would be higher than that in squalls to the east but you are right. Most of the buoys I looked at were like 20-22k gusts to maybe 30ish. I'm sure some of the storms are still bringing gusts to TS somewhere.

At my home in Texas City right now, I am experiencing the hardest and most sustained rain in this neighborhood since the initial flooding cleared out last night. God, that seems so long ago... It is not AS HARD, but with the ground so saturated, it still makes me very very nervous. So far, the bayou and streets seem to be holding up well. *fingers crossed*
