Hey southwest, we really don't know at this point there is a lot of area affected. We lost about 390,000 homes and a couple thousand lives. I don't believe the death toll will be so bad, but it remains to be seen how many homes were destroyed. It's not the same circumstance because Katrina was after the fact while Harvey had been evolving for days I guessed it would be a formidable storm. But it's likely to be in the tens of billions. So it's going to make the list. And to every person having to be rescued and bused to a shelter, it's the same experience. Harvey has surpassed what I thought it would do. I just don't know by how much.

That's conflicting - Head of the Red Cross was on TV today saying they need a LOT - mostly volunteers and monetary donations.

I'm watching abc13.com There are people being rescued at this time. There is a man driving a front end loaded up and down a main road..at every intersection there are people standing waiting to be rescued. Crying for help and he can only take a few at a time. They are scared and trying to climb on the sides of the front end loader he said earlier. He said they need more HELP. This is on ONE road ..imagine how many people need to be rescued. It's raining, there are children shivering...everybody is soaking wet and they are having to wait to be taken to a walmart, where they are boarded on another vehicle and taken to a shelter, shelters which are running out of blankets, food...etc. Its bad, trust me...its bad.

Yet the Houston Fire Department has advised they do not need or want any more volunteer help. It's just like Katrina and with the denial of what is being shown right on live TV, it's making me sick.

Aside from Harvey, I really hope nothing comes of this possible disturbance in the SW Gulf in 5-6 days. GFS and EC have been hinting at it and regardless might enhance the moisture in the Gulf. Just something to monitor once Harvey is out of here in 3-4 days

I don't disagree with anything you wrote. Tonight is not the time to be discussing it though, that was my point in my previous reply.

We as Houstonians (and all of SE Texas) are not out of the woods yet. I have stayed up every night watching the water creep toward my house and I have been lucky each night. I consider myself extremely lucky. I have also watched the people of this city, law enforcement/first responders, and even people from hundreds of miles away come together to beat Harvey so far. It has been nothing short of inspiring and now is certainly not the time for people to disparage that effort.

Rain Totals for the Northeast corner of Waller were at 34.8 inches this afternoon. To be honest after I saw the last reading I decided to quit counting!

I was finally able to get out today as the water ran off and roads became passable in my area. I've seen posts that Houston is turning away help, this is far from the truth. While I was out today I saw things you can't unsee. Boats are still needed in the outlining areas of Houston and the East side of Harris county will need help even more as the rain continues there.

I wish there was a thread for stories because I could tell you about some pretty amazing things, I saw victims sacrifice their own belongings to save another's.

The damage here is unreal. Roof damage, car damage, flood damage you name it.

I've seen people ask what we need down here, the only answer is what do we not need.

We are tired from lack of sleep, water logged and stressed beyond belief. We also know that even after the storm ends we will still be tired and stressed as we try to piece back together our homes and lives.

Many of our friends here locally in Fort Worth have pitched in with donations of all these things. Clothes as well. When Aldis wouldnt donate on the store level the manager of our local Aldis answered the call and pulled out her own pocket book and loaded a cart to send you guys. When walmart regional said no because we aren't a non profit the managers defied orders and put their job a risk by doing it anyways. The thanks go to all these people. I don't want to take credit for anything. Just want to know where to go when I get there so I can help someone see another day. Any advice on how to get down that way would be helpful. Friends I have that left Fort Worth tonight said 45 was closed at the woodlands

My oldest son is a fireman for Port Arthur and works as a paramedic for Trinity Bay and Anahuac. He's going to be VERY busy for a while. But not too busy to check on Dad though.

Looks pretty brutal for the Beaumont area next.

Still have power here. Steady rain but not too heavy. I think we're on the downside here now, but not so much down in the city, etc.
