Looks like Harvey is headed northeast in this radar loop.

Crapcrapcrapcrapcrap. Storm surge? I thought we were done with that...
I'm supposed to focus on my astrophysics research this week, but I don't know how when my hometown keeps getting punched in the gut...

That's not accurate, jeff Linder described an issue with the bay being higher than normal due to all the flooding. Wind is already reversed.

It looks like NAM 3k had a good grip on the start of this storm, is there chances that it continues to verify? https://www.tropicaltidbits.com/analysi ... 0&ypos=345
The precipitation levels are nothing short of horrifying for the regions they would end up in.

Okay. That's a relief. Well, I mean, the situation is still really bad and getting worse for some regions, but I'm glad it's not true we have storm surge on top of the freshwater flooding.

Orange - We;re getting the heavy rain now and the streets are once again flooding.
PLEASE! If you have to show off your jacked up pickup by driving through flooded streets, be aware that the wakes you leave could be the difference between people getting water in their homes and just missing that damage.
I'm amazed at the number of people sight seeing and speeding through flood waters leaving huge wakes.

Well based on Houston radar it does indeed seem to me that Harvey is stationary or even slight NW/SW movement over the last few frames. It appears the center is trying to wrap under/build convection. I don't know, but this would lend credence to the NAM 3k.

I'm heading down to Houston on Friday to begin working claims. I'm wondering if I will even be able to get down there. Anybody down there that has been watching the news have any info on the main road closures (I'll be coming down from the north trying to get to Pearland)? My first batch of claims look to be very severe so I'm hoping and get them closed as soon as possible so these people can get money in there hands to begin to rebuild

I hope it's clear by then. But the rivers will still be at record levels so that's a concern.

I have a feeling that road closures will probably change by then, but I've heard Txdot is trying to keep up with the road conditions.

We all have been told by the news, govt etc to use: https://traffic.houstontranstar.org/roadclosures/ to find out which roads are open and closed. Not sure if this helps...

Roads are changing all the time. 288 is the usual route to Pearland, but inside the Loop it floods all the time in storms, and has been flooded since early on in Harvey. It has dropped today, so by Friday it should be down unless we get more rain.
Check TxDOT, Houston Transtar, and local Houston news websites for updates and links to their social media. They're keeping people updated that way.
In general I'd guess that by Friday most major freeways will be clear. However, we could have infrastructure issues like bridges failing and so forth. Use caution.
Oh, I also heard the Waze app is doing a good job of keeping up with the road closures, flooding and providing best routes.

It is hard to tell, with that big wobble-flip flop motion, or whatever.
