Agree, also one of the schools in Cameron is on fire, luckily the fire department stayed and are fighting it.

Where did you get this information? I'm really close and we've heard nothing on this.

Saw it on facebook. You shouldn't be that close because all of Cameron Parish south of the Intercoastal Waterway has been under Mandatory Evacuation.

The Beaumont-Orange story is sort of a nightcap to this long trip for Texas. You're right about the mesoconvective cell. You can see the rotation--a very self contained piece of energy over the Beaumont area tonight. Lightning strikes rotating within the mass. Becoming one of the more incredible events of an incredible week. Feel bad for people in Beaumont. They've had it hard all along. Smaller communities sometimes don't get the focus that they deserve. Got to be really bad situation there. Gonna go on for quite some time.

major issue with BPT

This dump is occurring at the END of the event, after they already had about 30 inches. Houston's came at the START. Meaning, that as bad as it was for Houston, Beaumont will get it FAR WORSE because the ground is saturated

I understand that part of the mandatory evacuation was changed to voluntary.

I'm at the Calcasieu-Cameron parish line but on the Calcasieu side so not under evacuation orders here. We still haven't seen or heard anything about a fire in a Cameron school.

Yes, and to think that some of the models had this pegged for Houston, instead of Beaumont, is almost unimaginable. It's hard to fathom, after this terrible disaster, that in many we ways, we still dodged a bullet. As bad as it was, it could have still been much, much worse with another stall or two out of Harvey.

I hope flood planners, etc., take a really hard look after this storm. Maybe Allison wasn't the wake-up call we thought she was. Perhaps Harvey will be.

Harvey's center rotation is reflecting in that convection over Beaumont...

The water had receded to where they felt safe staying, but if it continues to rise their Plan A is to go to a relatives house on an adjacent lot that has been dry so far. So far being the operative word.

at a minimum (aside from the horrific river and bayou flooding this dump would have caused), this "core" dump had it been over Houston would have caused overtopping of all of the spillways on the reservoirs, instead of just the north Spillway at Addicks. I wonder if the dams would have faced catastrophic failure and total destruction of Houston if we had this "core dump" over the city

This will continue all night in Beaumont-Orange. Little coverage in this smaller community in the dead of night. Don't know the local river situation, but it's going to be stressed to the max. Everyone senses the light at the end of the tunnel. Human nature. But this is nowhere near being over for SE Texas.

So glad to hear it has receded, hope it remains. At least they can evacuate close by.

From what I understand it was actually Cameron, Ok., wish they would of had that in the caption.

Got another update from southerngale. Actually hunkered in her garage apartment above the garage. Still has generator but afraid it will go with water rising still. Several feet of water in her house.

Is the flooding she’s seeing from a bayou or some of the levee/dam overflow? What area is she in? Hope she will be safe through the night, darkness and water are a terrifying combination.

Unbelievable what's going on in the Beaumont area, Houston might have gotten a breather out of that community's expense.
