Thanks for that optimistic message. My son is a fireman for Port Arthur.

Yes it is. Water is rising as is the wind.

Ignore those posts. I live in Houston and the local news is covering Beaumont/Port Arthur tonight. Mayor of Port Arthur has communicated that they were rescuing everyone in town with a huge dump truck.

Dire situation tonight for sure, but it's not "gone" by any means.

The radar shows my location right on the edge of the heavier rain and the "break" and yet it has still been pouring. I've been thinking we were going to move into it for 30 minutes now. It almost looks like this feature is losing some of its structure, but maybe I'm just being hopeful.

My house took on water early this morning and has been rising all day. We now have 3-4 feet of water in our house as of about 4 hours ago. Still raining and still rising. Still here, upstairs in the garage apartment behind my house. The rains are relentless and I'm just praying this little apartment survives. If not, I'm toast. It's scary hearing the rain slam against it. The waters are still rising. Pinewood is completely underwater. My house was built in 1960 and had never flooded before.

This is truly a disaster of epic proportion.

I know I'm not the only one suffering tonight, but please send prayers that this little apartment holds up. Prayers going out to everyone affected...

Judge Branick says more houses with water in PA than without and rescues will begin again at dawn.

He has said this, but they cannot get to people. Look at the requests for rescue on Twitter and on KFDM and 12 News Now pages on Facebook.

It's been incredibly heart-wrenching keeping up with this thread and the videos as a (far) outside observer. I'm terrified to see the damage and death reports that are going to follow once the waters start receding, I couldn't even imagine having to actually live and experience this. I've also been incredibly moved by the kindness and courage of strangers coming together to help each other that I've seen. Texas is undoubtedly in my thoughts.

EDIT: New York Times is saying right now that the death toll has jumped to 30. Not sure if that's an officially confirmed death toll, but I imagine things are just difficult to confirm right now anyway. As I said, I'm terrified to see how that will rise. Please everyone stay safe!!

This was posted about 3:15 a.m. to the Southeast Louisiana Storm Spotter's Facebook page:

"URGENT--
ALL CAJUN NAVY ASSETS IN AND HEADING TO THE BEAUMONT-PORT ARTHUR AND ORANGE TEXAS AREAS HAVE BEEN ORDERED TO STAND DOWN AND PULL BACK TO HIGHER GROUND DUE TO THE FEROCITY OF CURRENTS IN THE FLOODED AREAS ABOVE.
WE HAVE CONFIRMED REPORTS OF SEVERAL RESCUE BOATS THAT HAVE CAPSIZED AND SWEPT AWAY. STATUS OF THE BOAT PERSONNEL ARE UNKNOWN EXCEPT FOR ONE WHICH IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING RESCUED BY A COAST GUARD HELICOPTER AT THIS TIME.
PUBLIC OFFICIALS HAVE SAID THAT RIGHT NOW THIS WILL ONLY BE A COAST GUARD, FIRST RESPONDER AND CERTIFIED SAR ASSET OPERATION. ALL OTHERS WILL BE STOPPED BEFORE ENTERING INTO THE AREAS WHERE THE WATER IS SO BAD THAT ONLY LARGE BOATS WITH AT LEAST A 300HP ENGINE ARE BEING ALLOWED.
REPEATING, ALL CAJUN NAVY ASSETS HAVE BEEN ORDERED TO STAND DOWN AND PULL BACK FROM THE BEAUMONT-PORT ARTHUR AND ORANGE TEXAS AREAS BY CAJUN NAVY LEADERSHIP."

So sorry to hear. I will continue to pray for you and everyone impacted by this historic storm. Thankfully it looks like the heaviest rain has ended for the Beaumont area.

My heart just breaks for our neighbors in the Golden Triangle. I hope and pray Southerngale and her family can stay safe. Day 4 of Harvey and aftermath. We are fine. The sun came out yesterday. Just 7 miles from me, rescues from neighborhoods near Lake Houston and the San Jacinto River took place. A resuraunt where my wife got married over 13 years ago is flooded to the roof. This is a very sad situation. We cannot get to 59, 610 or Beltway 8, but we are ok. A funny aside, my chair and dissertation.committee were happy I was ok,
.but wanted me to carry on with corrections. Oh yea
