The cell towers working well is a huge blessing. Our were overloaded last year and communications were greatly affected by both the volume of calls/internet over mobile networks and flood damaged infrastructure.

Thank you.

It is just crushing to hear individual reports of desperate requests for help. People scared, stranded, all the while watching their cell phone battery dropping to single digits. So many others such as ourselves that have so much but are hundreds (or more) miles away, wishing it were easy enough to just hand someone some dry clothes or water or a cell phone battery.... anything. Artist..., thank you (as well as others) for updating the board here on some of the details affecting individuals, rescue attempt, updates to dam and flood events, etc. Because few of us can consistently be aware of all that's going on with nearly all the news and updates its hard to keep up with it all but this is the human part of the story which need to be seen and heard. General factoids such as inches of rainfall or numbers evacuated just do not capture the events that are unfolding and the real picture of those affected. For myself and probably a lot of others, viewing the radar and satellite simply paints an inaccurate picture that the rain must have stopped, the sun is out and water must be quickly receding. Those of us not from other parts of the country obviously are not aware of the other factors contributing to the ongoing flooding (ie: reservoir systems, faulty damns, or even the impact of rising flood tables up-river that are seemingly contributing to the ongoing flood conditions in and around Houston). I see repeated mentions of the "Cajun Navy" and am not quite sure if this was a group of people who banded together and with their boats are trying to help and save others? The recent post that they in fact were turning back by the Coast Guard and/or officials because of the fast moving and dangerous waters seems boggling to me yet describes events that are hard to understand or fathom without actually seeing the how and why of what is all going on in thousands of neighborhoods and to countless numbers of people. My wishes go out to all those affected. If anyone here is local to the impacted area's, are able to receive packages, and would like to provide an address where items may be mailed for you to distribute to others, maybe it can be posted here? Otherwise, feel free to PM me.

So true. Unlike the more typical major hurricane landfall event where the wind damage would destroy or further diminish the remaining aspects of our human infrastructure. Communication is a BIG DEAL. Of course when one thinks about what is occurring at ground level, tens of thousands of people who might have been lucky enough to escape with their cell phones, but perhaps without charging cords (and certainly without electricity where flood waters have overtaken neighborhoods). Just goes to show the importance of "a plan"; so many things that can just go wrong and leave people isolated and stranded.

The Cajun Navy, as they are called are citizens that got together during Katrina with boats, high profile vehicles, to try help rescue people off rooftops. Since then they have grown, spawned others in other areas to do the same. They show up whenever others need to rescued and extra resources are needed. Just neighbors helping neighbors. It is all pretty astounding and heart warming.

So, a general question here regarding the flooding that has taken place (or continuing in Port Arthur and elsewhere). For areas in and around Houston, it appears at least for now that additional rains are finally becoming less of a threat. With the flooding that has already occurred, what are local officials indicating as an approximate period of time where they think flood waters will finally recede? Also, not being from Texas or particularly aware of the levies in place, rivers and dam systems..... are flooding conditions likely to continue or even be exacerbated by upstream swollen rivers? Are dam systems presently in place still at risk of rupturing? How long will local officials expect to "force-flood" neighborhoods in order to protect the integrity of present dams that are in place?

National guard to deploy an other 10,000 troops. Will be deployed to most immediate areas. 200 boats and vehicles are coming in immediately from the Dept of Defense.

F*ck this storm...honestly. So devastating to hear all of this loss...but the important thing to remember is that our members are alive, and safe. I believe setting up a S2K gofundme page for the dozen or so people on the forum who have been flooded out will be a good idea once things calm down...but for now, I am just worried about safety.

Disasterassistance.gov immediate assistance is available for those in counties eligible. Another 14 counties have been added, I believe he said- Gov Abbott .

They just lost the feed.

If there is flooding do it drive out. Most lives so far have been lost doing that.
Active guard are working in 14 areas. 100 helies. They will continue and also aid in shelter locations. Power coastal region aep, still 100,000 out but many new crews have come in.
Centerpojnt 90,000 are out of power, 85,00 out with enter your.

Rapid needs teams have been deployed for water assessment to Rockport, etc.
Fish and wildlife has 5000 at parks sheltering.
Tx Forest continuing to assist
Dept of health has set up 2 emergency rooms, one at Houston Conv center. The
Evacuees are being taken to different areas. 32,000 are in shelters. Have another 32,000 beds available.
210,000 registered with FEMA. More than $32 million in funds already approved.
Trying to quickly move people into family units. They have over 2000 provided so far.
Over 5 million melas served.

I have been reading from the sidelines here for many years, well before Katrina on an earlier account. I don't know any of you personally, but you long-time contributors are such familiar names and I've learned so much from you. So it leaves me heavy-hearted to learn of your struggles and to be unable to do a single thing to help you. I know there is an outer circle of invisible supporters like me who will hold all of you in our thoughts and prayers. Hang on.

Price gauging you will end up out of business, as you will be prosecuted. Gov Abbott.

Swath of area is larger than a Katrina's. Expects it to be far over $100 billion, when asked.

Fuel priority is for first responders. Working to restore fuel capacities as quickly as possible

Tx dept of ins, claims will be paid and they will protect victims. The bill rumors does not change anything.
The bill empowers claimants to keep more money in their pockets, and not lawyers.
They are sending staff to help file claims.
