.SHORT TERM...(Tonight through Friday night)
Issued at 315 PM CDT Wed Aug 30 2017
Flash Flood Watch issued for most of West KY Thursday night
through Friday. Remnants of Harvey will approach Thursday
afternoon, tracking across west TN Thursday night, heading
northeast and reaching east central Kentucky by Friday evening.
We will see an uptick in rains Thursday afternoon across our
southern most counties in west KY, SEMO/bootheel, with a solid
area of heavy rain lifting northeast across west Kentucky Thursday
night. The extra tropical transitional nature of this system, with
some slight deepening forecast given the isallorbaric pressure
tendencies means we will likely see gusty winds as well,
especially across west Kentucky. We may eventually need a Wind
Advisory. The next shift can make a call on this. Widespread
amounts in excess of 4 inches across the Watch area appears
likely. As you head toward the TN border, including areas from
Murray to Hopkinsville, amounts of 6 inches or more are likely.
The extremes on either end seem to range from 4-5" on the low end,
to 8-10" on the high end toward the KY/TN line. The focus will be
Thursday night into early Friday morning. Meanwhile, a very sharp
cut off, gradient, will exist from near the Ohio River north and
west into southern Illinois and southeast Missouri with amounts
quickly tapering down to less than 1". Any shift in the low track
will have a significant impact on amounts. However, confidence is
decent in the latest forecast track given model stabilization.
