Isabel sure did rock. We booked flights and made arrangements with Isabel at cat 4 / cat 5

Making landfall as borderline cat 1/2 possibly turned out to be perfect for a first hurricane experience. The size and power of the storm has left me wondering what if.... it had stayed as a strong cat 4. I think we would have got the hell away to be honest, if we had time

Isabel was quite an experience. Has left me wondering what a stronger hurricane would be like.

For the next chase, i'm thinking a cat 3 storm with a clear eye.

Speaking purely as a storm enthusiast, guys, we must try to locate ourselves so that we are in the eye. Hope the eye is clear at the time it makes landfall.

Saw a program the other day, the island of Guam apparantly sees at least one typhoon each year. There is a storm chaser there, she was interviewed on this programme, she experienced a super typhoon on the island, actually standing out in the open with sustained winds well over 100 mph. She's probably crazier than us, but she did not get into the eye.

And that is my goal. The experience of the eye

Anything stronger than Isabel, i'm figuring we won't be standing out there, for the risk of being turned into a human piece of debris. I'd figure we get the best footage we could as the winds increased. Get into a sheltered location for the eye wall (Cat 3, maybe a Cat 4 Hurricane remember)

Eye moves overhead, sun out, winds drop considerably, we get out, get as much footage as we possibly can (would likely be spectacular footage) as long as the eye was clear, and be prepared to move fast into shelter as the opposite side of the eye wall approaches.
The horizonal rain and hurricane force winds would be back so fast, we wouldn't want to get caught out in the open in that

We would have to be prepared to take significant risks to do something like this, but then again, we take a risk by flying on a plane

Well that's my dream

Isabel has initiated a hunger in me. It was my first, but not planning to be my last hurricane experience.

I actually think we all learned at lot from the Hurricane Isabel experience
and storm chasing from you guys during the trip. Thanks a lot

Steve
