Been tru a few storms including Andrew but this one is quite different and a bit more scary to me. If it takes a track up the spine it will make getting supplies in the southern end of the state where i am really difficult which is my biggest concern. With Andrew we could just drive north a couple of hours and restock fuel, food and essentials.

Hopefully Alligator Alley toward the west coast Naples/Ft. Myers wouldn't be as bad, but if the GFS happens Central Florida and Jacksonville would be strapped for supplies also.

Well today I completed all of my preparations and went to various stores here in the Jax area. I can tell you now that supplies like water, batteries, etc.. were running low. So, that is good that people our taking this seriously to prepare now.

I hope Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowes , and others are well stocked or have many orders ready because they are about to get absolutely rushed by many people in the coming days. But, that is why you p l an and prepare EARLY to avoid being out there among the mass hystetia which is about to commence..

I don't use annular because it is an over used term (like the word genius) mostly by people who don't really understands what it means....but in the case...if she keeps this up for about 12 hours...I will have to say it too...amazing

Again, if you know "back roads" of the state, you could probably find gas off the beaten path.

For example, you know there's NO GAS STATIONS on the alley at all. However, if you got off on Snake Road and drove into the Seminole Indian Reservation, they have a gas station that will NOT be without gas! I know this. Don't ask me how I know, but I know this.

Snake Road is just before you drive out of Broward County on the alley westbound, btw.

I know where that is but did not know about the gas station. Born and raised in the Redlands and fooled around plenty in the glades so i know the back roads. Thank you i will make a mental note of that gas station.

Button the place up. Board up, shutters -whatever - if you have them. Unplug appliances, like TV, etc. I'd only leave the fridge running (cause you're hoping it'll STAY on!). Take whatever food you can with you so as not to lose much to loss of power.

Pick up your yard, don't leave anything around that'll blow away into your neighbors' yards. They will not be amused!

CLEAN UP, especially do all your laundry. You don't know how long you'll be gone, and you DON"T want to come home to a pile of dirty laundry when you'll probably be bringing dirty laundry home with you.

Thanks for the advice... I'm a bachelor, so I think I'll pass on the laundry.. that pile is is a constant feature of the house.

Well you do want it to feel like home when you get back. :-)

We were out today finalizing preps. Got a few tarps, in case the roof goes. :-(

Then to Wal-Mart to get more water, cat food, etc. just a few odds and ends...

The water was FLYING out the door. As soon as the guy would bring out a palette, it would get empty and he'd have to turn around and bring another one out! Every cart had at least 3 or 4 cases of 35 bottles, most more. The guy bringing out the water said they've got 20 more "cases" ordered for tomorrow. I don't know how many 20 cases is, but I suspect its a shit-ton! Maybe he meant palette loads.

I hope not. I was there in April for spring break. One of my favorite places. They are both right on the beach at sea level, so unfortunately not a good place to be for storm surge. :(

It's about 35 miles north of the alley, but definitely is there, and you could load up gas cans, too, when NO ONE ELSE might have gas!

Assuming she doesn't ERC, by morning we should get highly impressive visible-images for an Atlantic hurricane with some daylight.

Stadium effect eye (Aric mentioned earlier) is taking good shape now even without daylight you can tell

I am terrified truly. I paid for reservations in Ocala and Orlando and TN. TN is the only one that doesn't make me feel like throwing up.

Anyone making reservations, especially multiple reservations, please keep in mind that several chains have recently changed their cancellation policy to require more notice, in many cases 48 hours and even some up to 72 hours. Make sure you know the policy for any rooms you are holding and cancel unused rooms far enough in advance to prevent being charge (not to mention it opens up the room for other evacuees that may need it).

That is good to know but just for the record...I was planning on donating the places that I don't use, so they would be paid places that others could use (even if they typically could not have afforded it) :) I will be letting them loose very soon...just waiting a little more...praying...hoping.

Could indeed attain Cat 5 status later tonight or early tomorrow..

Sigh. Goodbye Soggy Dollar Bar.

Goodbye Foxys.

Sigh.

I hope not. I was there in April for spring break. One of my favorite places. They are both right on the beach at sea level, so unfortunately not a good place to be for storm surge. :(

I was there in May. No way they survive a Cat 5 direct hit. And I love the people there and at Corsairs. Sigh.
