may be reaching a TEMPORARY peak for now. Satellite not quite as impressive. However, this is likely just a minor fluctuation. Cat 5 most likely scenario for islands. Best case scenario is a cat 4, unfortunately

Having been to Nevis and St. Kitts, it's hard to imagine what a category 5 hurricane would do to these islands. I pray that it stays to your north.

Good Morning, beautiful...

Beautiful? Sure wish I had the luxury of that emotion. This storm is about to blow apart the world of millions down here. In PR, we have been told to expect to be without electricity for up to three months.

Everyone in the States is worried for you all down there. I hope you and everybody else have left Vieques for the big island. The "little island" is NOT the place to ride out this storm! Prayers to you, stay safe and best of luck.

Anguilla, Antigua, Barbuda and Anedega look to get the worst of this. Do we have any members on those islands?

Are you looking for Florida building codes?
Try this link: https://www.floridabuilding.org/bc/bc_default.aspx
But your best bet may be going to your county or city website.

The 12Z NHC forecast is worth almost 40 ACE alone.

It probably did a little earlier overnight with W ring and some CMG and winds lagged a bit. Still though the winds are very high without a ring of CMG. Lots to ponder about typhoons and some EPAC systems. But not to understate the intensity of Irma which is now one of the strongest storms in the Atlantic on record.

This doesn't even have a WMG eye yet somehow recon is finding winds of 152 knots via SFMR.

Scratch that ADT has a positive double digit eye temperature. Still T6.5 and 155 knots don't exactly go together.

Oh....that's so horrible! My heart goes out to those in the islands as this appears to be a major catastrophe of historic proportions. Hoping for the best for all our friends in the islands!

I'm thinking all our friends in the lesser Antilles. This could be the worst hit in many their lifetimes for many of those islands...BVI, Anguilla, st Bart's, st Maarten...all in the direct path of a strengthening cat 5. This could make some their big ones (Luis and Marylyn come to mind) seem like NBD.

There is not one "blanket code" for the entire state. Codes are set mainly based on how close a home/building is to the coast lines, elevations, etc. That said, unfortunately the codes are under review to become less strict as the 25-year-old memory of Andrew fades.

I don't have time to search the FL gov bureaucracy site, but this may help. http://www.wjhg.com/content/news/Changes-in-Florida-building-code-429521493.html

It's supposed to round the ridge this morning and head north west'ish later today. It's not that big of a turn.

Atlantic killer and not turning...Could get a good piece of the Virgins if it doesn't pull up...

We're staring down the barrel here too and I can't figure what the GFS going back to a Miami hit means with the Euro scoring a bullseye on us...
