The island of Anguilla is now being battered by the strongest part of the eyewall - RFQ
Do we have any wind obs on that island?

Residents Asked to Refrain From Trimming Trees, Vegetation Prior to Irma
BREVARD COUNTY, FL. -- The County's Solid Waste Department is asking residents to refrain from cutting trees or vegetation or doing any major yard work prior to any impact from Hurricane Irma on Brevard County.
Mass cutting places a tremendous burden on the normal solid waste collection process, and collection of this debris a few days prior to landfall of the storm is not guaranteed.
During a Watch or Warning period, do not place materials at the curb or take materials to the landfill or transfer facility. Services may be suspended and facilities may close early to prepare for the storm.
For information on the status of our facilities and collection services, residents should consult the website or monitor local radio and/or television stations for service updates.
If you have a ditch beside or behind your house, you could throw it in there. Otherwise. You could place it up against the house on the opposite side of the worst expected winds and hope it doesn't get picked up and fly around.

The St Bart's cam is still holding on.... Just about. I don't think that the palm tree is going to make it tho.
My 2 year old is sat with me watching everything and looking thru Sat images.... she is so obsessed with storms and the weather in general.
I just wish I could show her the beauty of these storms without the knowledge in my mind that it is such a horrible situation for so, so many people

Re: ATL: IRMA - Hurricane - Discussion
Maybe someone can help me with a couple questions, my company is having an AM meeting to discuss the hurricane , after the push back I got last night when I recommended closing Thursday and Friday I am expecting a battle.
I think this is typically people's largest problem with. Wing able to evac ahead of the storms.
Question 1 , can they require people to be at work during hurricane warning/watches in affect legally ?
When would these watches/ warnings be issued for broward county?
Thank you

Thanks, Michele! No ditches or anything, but you have given me a good idea. going to put it on my deck, which is surrounded on three sides with a 6' privacy fence, against the fence, pile a few concrete stepping stones on top of it. That deck had really aged in recent years, and was just completely rebuilt in Dec. Hope it holds up to Irma. Sadly, that deck is
probably the least of my worries, since we are on a barrier island . . .

I'd say OTS percentage low. I'm thinking Isabel track at landfall.

an Isabel track? This is not going to hit eastern NC moving at a 310 heading. No chance at that. It could hit NC, but would be moving at about a 20 degree heading if it did. Not comparable to Isabel at all

Anguilla up next, then Anegada, where an evacuation was ordered, but I've read that some residents refused...

120H 11/0600Z 26.5N 80.9W 105 KT 120 MPH...INLAND..so to se florida peeps, the trend is clearly in our favor so dont flip out that the core is right on us and we are on the dirty side, there was no way nhc was going to go way right offshore for reasons explained in the disco and our posts earlier...if we get a few more cycles of it offshore they will keep adjusting, the downside is we have a major hurricane on top of us in the nhc track currently...we need it to move at least 100 miles east, lets see what the modeling especially ensembles yield today
Yeah, this track is going to freak a lot of people out this morning, but may actually be "better news" for us if this begins an east trend. Every mile east counts for something and could mean the difference between something manageable and the eyewall of this ridiculous storm that thinks it is a WPac super typhoon. I'm really confident that my building and my parents' homes can deal with 120mph winds. I'm a lot less confident about a 185mph 1935 Labor Day redux.

Hopefully, you will get far less push back this morning, given the eastward shift in the cone, which puts your area within risk of getting the eye wall, and on the 'dirty' side of the storm.
I see that Broward has already announced no school for Thursday and Friday, and that shelters are expected to open on Thursday, so, with those plans in place, one would think evac plans would be announced sometime today.

Not all of them, date palm trees, which belongs in the desserts, don't do well in hurricanes.
