Yeah certainly an exceptional hurricane, it is much closer to a WPAC type typhoon than your typical Atlantic, especially with that large stable eye and the continual cat-5 wind speeds for such a long sustained time. As you said it looks like its got a while to run at this power yet!

Absolutely.
Must be a massive up draft.

Wow, that's insane, that doesn't happen often, especially in the Atlantic.

Is Irma still strengthening or has it levelled off in intensity? I haven't checked in on it since this morning.

Wow at 7.6 raw T#. I read somewhere that 8.0 is the highest ever recorded in Atlantic?

What is even worse is its going to be entering waters soon that support even deeper convection thanks to the high heat content, if it avoids land we could well see something close to 8.0 raw (not that 7.6 is not insane in its own right!)

Yes, Gilbert was analyzed to be T8.0 by TAFB as shown in its report and it was the only Atlantic hurricane to ever received a T8.0

Wow thanks for the info. I didn't figure an Atlantic storm had ever reached an 8.0. I figured maybe mid-high 7s. Very impressive Gilbert was surely a beautiful monster.

looks like whatever light shear that was undercutting it earlier has stopped. back to being very symmetric.

I live in Parish - About 45 miles SSW of Tampa.

To shutter or not to shutter is the question. What would you guys do? I live in a newer sturdy concrete block single story home.

Waiting on this next pass from recon to see if this intensity we are seeing will translate to lower pressure or higher winds or both.

As Hurricane Irma barrels toward Florida, many people are rushing to get out of the state before it hits. But as that demand increases, travelers are complaining that ticket prices are skyrocketing.

I have a hotel in Moultrie, GA. Do we think that will be far enough out of the path? I can find anything that is just a little further ... I will have to go really far to find anything else.
