Is the eye tilted? That point is not center in the eye??

The background satellite image does not update as quickly as the recon data.

This is general and not so specifically about Irma (though it was written in the CONTEXT of Irma)

A fantastic article about how to follow hurricanes online - how to sort through the clutter of model data, etc. on social media. Really excellent.

probably not a reduction in the wind yet. Need to sample the N and NE eyewall first

Alyono,
What are your thoughts on track prediction? Just E, W or through Fl?

at least close enough so that some part of South Florida gets hurricane force winds

Sen. Rubio on TWC right now sounds very distressed. I really am nervous and think this is going to be a second major blow in the season.

A correction to a tweet I posted earlier about using a special radar feature to view the double eyewall:

I think the worst is over, it looks like the eye of Irma is now north of San Juan and slowly moving away from PR.

Tropical storm conditions here for a couple of hours here (eastern central PR), some trees down, we lost power but no damage to houses/buildings. It looks like we dodged the bullet big time!

Take pictures before you leave

#6011 Postby HedwigTramp » Wed Sep 06, 2017 7:41 pm

If you are in life threatening conditions, Get out fast. If you have several days before impact, as part of your evacuation plan, include taking many many many pictures of your stuff. Even if you are hunkering in, take tons of pictures of your stuff and upload to the cloud.

Disclaimer: If I had ANY forecasting ability, do you think I would have stayed put for so many storms? Y'all get your information from the NWS.

If she breaks 900 mb, I'll be even more speechless.

Gfs really knocked these intensity estimates out of the park, and everyone thought it was crazy. Plenty of low shear and warm water to go, and it looks like Irma is going to miss all the mountainous islands.

Maybe this will help to lessen some of the ridicule that's been hurled at the GFS of late.

At NASA a 3-D image was created using GPM's radar (DPR Ku band) data.
GPM's radar revealed that the extremely powerful storms rotating around the eye were reaching altitudes greater than 7.75 miles (12.5 km).
The tallest thunderstorms were found by GPM's radar in a feeder band that was located to the southwest of Irma's eye.
These extreme storms were reaching heights of over 10.0 miles (16.2 km).
GPM is a joint mission between NASA and the Japanese space agency JAXA.

I know Philippe, and will have to tell him to use Kdp rather than Sdp as the abbreviation for specific differential phase (one of the few times I am able to correct him, he is a brilliant TC researcher).
