You can't go too far west unless you know someone you can stay with. There are a lot of Harvey evacuees in hotels in Alabama and Mississippi and even some as far as Pensacola.

I am on a boat in Daytona. It is looking grim for me. The marina I was looking at is booked. I cant run anywhere. I was thinking St. Augustine but now i have my doubts.
Never have been so stressed. Earlier in the week I was glad I didnt stay in Key West this 'cane season. Now I feel stuck.
I dont want to leave my boat, but if I do I want her in a relatively safe place.

Two resources that might be helpful for those traveling on I-95 at least:

current traffic conditions. Not sure if there would be info on gas availability, but maybe.
Don't know if there's a similar resource for the FL-TPK or other routes...

Thanks for all the replies looks like talladega/central alabama isn't a bad shout. I've thrown your suggestions into the mix and we'll see how far they're willing to go north to get out of the path of Irma...

With that crew a campground type situation might work well. A speedway somewhere (talledaga?) was opening up for evacuees.
Atlanta Motor Speedway was opened for evacuees.

Correct. Talladega and the Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Can you transport it and dry dock? I'd look on Craigslist for someone offering a concrete garage space? Please ask locals for help/ideas here.

floridasun, you're such a valuable member here. Hoping you'll go to one of the shelters to ride out the storm. So sad the reality for Florida. Take your photos/remembrances etc and remember, possessions are replaceable but life isn't. Looking forward to more of your posts over the years ahead.

Yeah, hats off to Atlanta motor speedway, as well as Talladega motor speedway opening up for campers for free.

Re: ATL: IRMA - Hurricane - Discussion
I'm somewhat relieved to know my uncle (and family) from Port St. Lucie was able to prepare for this storm. He also left to New Orleans given the weather would be fine and is far enough from Irma's brunt. On the other hand, the potential impacts and property damage this hurricane may cause are worrying. I hope this would no longer be a powerful menace or if the worst of luck comes, structures would survive and so would lives. My friend from West Palm Beach will already evacuate later today or tomorrow. I hope everyone would be safe and ready for even the worst possible scenario.

Re: ATL: IRMA - Hurricane - Discussion
FYI about gas for people evacuating. The Jacksonville area gas stations are starting to run out as well, there are some with a little gas, but even with trucks coming often, the stations run out shortly after. I would expect tomorrow to be even worse around here.

Plenty of dry dock up in St Augustine, though i think being anchored and spider webbed in mangroves might be safer. Ive seen what happens to boats on stilts in hurricane winds.

SXM expected to be open by Friday, obviously not to commercial traffic but the dutch have resourced in the air with a RNLAF C130 and KC101 on the way. Currently the runway is being cleared of debris for the 2x aircraft to arrive.
