How are people identifying which gas stations have gas (other than driving to them :D ). I know Waze is encouraging people to identify stations with no gas in their app. Are there other good sources for information on fuel?

The GasBuddy app is decently accurate, but it relies on the users to identify them as well.

Here is a Google + GIS map that displays the Google traffic layer. Looks like miles and miles of slow and stop-and-go traffic.
The symbols can be clicked for accident/closure info.

Try GasBuddy. That's the one I use on a regular basis. I believe there is a trend currently of ($9.99) reported as prices for gas stations that are out of fuel completely.

Irma is holding herself quite well considering that hurricanes passing just north of Hispaniola disrupt them. Now there are more islands in her path. :double:

They are getting close to Lake City. I would hang a left on I-10 and head west. Pensacola area is probably good. If the hotels there fill up, you can take I-65N towards Montgomery between P'Cola and Mobile.

The vortex message went with 920mb, but they also reported 149kt surface winds. The highest SFMR readings had been flagged in the HDOB messages, but looks like the crew was able to confirm it enough to report out.

For those interested in forecasts of the possible extent of TS force winds, the U.S. Navy's Tropical Cyclone page is a good reference. Go to the following link (https://www.nrlmry.navy.mil/TC.html) and choose the storm (Irma) from the left hand column and choose the Latest ATCF track graphic. It's the Navy's business to add the forecast possibility of 34 knot winds to the projected NHC track (see https://www.nrlmry.navy.mil/atcf_web/docs/graphic_key/warning.html) to show the possible extent of dangerous boating conditions. They incorporate the potential wind field with the NHC track for their 'cone of danger'.
Currently, the possible TS force wind field includes most of the southeast of the U.S. and well inland too!

Thanks for the info on the gas apps. FYI University of Florida just posted (10:53 EST) that main campus will be closed Sunday and Monday.

Looking for a little education here. When I look at this water vapor loop it looks like that front is really digging. When is it supposed to lift out and how do they know when it will lift out? Wouldn't Irma tend to follow the flow along this front and ride up along the east coast?

I have friends that have evacuated from Key West 3 cars, kids, pets, chickens (I know) It's the right call but they've basically been driving north without much of a plan where to head towards. So far they've made it as far as Ocala and are now wondering how far is far enough? Where would you head to in this situation?

Tallahassee, Pensacola

Anywhere west. We keep talking about Atlanta, anywhere in SC, NC, but apparently THEY are going to get some of this thing, too. If it were my decision, I'd go out I-10

From what I have heard all of Georgia is sold out of hotel rooms.
